The Costa de Lisboa/Lisbon region
Lisbon is Europe's second-oldest capital (after Athens), once home to the world's greatest explorers like Vasco da Gama, Magellan and Prince Henry the Navigator, becoming the first true world city, the capital of an empire spreading over all continents, from South America (Brazil) to Asia (Macao, China; Goa, India). The former launch pad for many of the world's greatest voyages is now where modern travelers discover... ??...one of Europe's most soulful, captivating and picturesque capitals, built on a series of hills with scenic vistas from every angle. ??...the city of the oceans, the only European capital with sunsets on the sea, so close to sandy beaches and with one of the world's largest state-of-the-art aquariums. ??...one of the world's greatest natural harbors which attracted different civilizations, now reflected in its architecture and culture recalling Phoenicians, Celts, Romans, Visigoths and Moors. ??...a charming visual time-warp with vintage trams and medieval village-like neighborhoods. ??...a lively but serene and melancholic place with an insatiable appetite for long dinners, coffee breaks and nightlife. ??...World Heritage monuments and singular museum treasures, from international design and contemporary art, to treasures from when the East met West, to the ancient art of tile painting and gilding. ??...a reminiscence of the romantic decay of Venice, the exoticism of Naples or Istanbul, the laid-backness of Rome, echos of San Francisco, and Iberian spirit. ??...one of Europe's capitals of Romanticism, a real fairytale just minutes from the city center (Sintra).
The Lisbon / Central Lisbon area
Northeast of the apartment is the Gulbenkian Museum, one of the world's great museums and one of Europe's unsung treasures. Part of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, it houses a magnificent collection of Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Islamic, Asian, and European art. It was substantially renovated and modernized in 2001 (many of its masterpieces were on display in New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art during renovation), and can't be missed during a visit to Lisbon. This is one of the world's finest private art collections.
If shopping is what you are looking for, El Corte Ingles, best department store in Portugal, is right next door offering also leisure activities such as cinemas and fine dining.
Or walk down to Marques de Pombal and Avenida de Liberdade and onto Baixa/ Chiado for an immersion in Lisbon´s true colors.

We recently arrived from a holiday in Lisbon where we stayed for a week. It was our first visit to Lisbon and we were more than delighted with the beauty, charm and friendliness of this place. So much to see and do you will definitely want to come back again.
The apartment was just perfect for us and it really made our holiday so much more enjoyable. Our two young boys really liked it and had plenty of room to play and, my husband and I could not have wished for anything else, really, just fantastic! The apartment is most comfortable, very clean, stylish and provided with anything you may need during your stay. The location is also great, a step away from a subway station and a major superstore which opens till late.
Maria was also very helpful and we would most definitely come back to this place anytime. 10/10

Once we'd found the building ( a discreet entrance ), we realised we'd found a gem ! It's very spacious, modern & well equipped. Maria showed us around & was available in case of problems. It's only 10 -15 mins from the airport.
The building is right next door to a huge department store, El Corte Inglés ( think upmarket John Lewis), which has a large supermarket in the basement, as well as a 14 screen cinema & a large food court. As it's all open until 10pm & 11.30pm on Saturdays, getting food in wasn't exactly difficult.
The entrance to the Metro is also through the store, so you don't have to go outside to get on a train. It's 10 -15minutes to the old parts of the city, & Cascais is less than an hour from the apartment with 1 change on the Metro before jumping on the train.
The Gulbenkian museums are only a 10 minute walk away & are well worth exploring; the gardens are superb too, although we found the direction signage a bit confusing.
We had a wonderful time & have no hesitation in recommending Maria's apartment.
Culture & shopping; what more could one want ? !
