About the home

Our beautiful apartment is located in the old district of Lisbon close to the Royal Palace. The completely renovated residence is situated on the 3rd floor in a little old town house of the 18th century. A small, steep staircase leads to the apartment. The complete living space amounts to 55 sq. m and extends to two levels. From the tiled living-room kitchen you reach the bathroom with a bathtub and a window from which you have a view of a green interior court. By an iron spiral staircase you get to the romantic bedroom situated on the 2nd floor in an attic (15 sq. m, height: 1.60 m) with two dormer windows. A big orthopaedic mattress (1.40 x 2.00 m) lies on a fine polished wooden floor. Furthermore two persons can sleep on a sofa bed. From the living-room you get to the tiled and furnished balcony. Here you can enjoy an interesting view of the street Rua das Trinas and of the river Tejo.

You receive the apartment key from our housekeeper Dona Emilia directly at the place of residence. Dona Emilia lives in the 1st floor of our house. She is very kindly.
In the winter month from 1999 - 2004 we were privileged to live with our little daughter in this beautiful apartment. We always loved to see the morning light over the Tejo bay from our balcony.

An evening walk through our quarter to the old palaces an churches is a special highlight.
In 5 Min. walking distance you will find the famous Fado house Senhor Vinho in Lapa.
The best Fado singers of Portugal have everynight their show.

The apartment is provided with city gas. There are two electric radiators installed and in the bathroom is a heater fixed. You also find a standing ventilator and a baby bed in the apartment. All electric appliances are provided with a children-safety. In the district everything is on disposal: taxis, a bus stop, all kind of shopping possibilities are easily accessible by feet.

The Costa de Lisboa/Lisbon region

The city district Lapa is a famous residence area of Lisbon. Once founded as a summer site of the British aristocracy, the quarter has still today a very special atmosphere with its embassies, galleries and museums. In close neighbourhood of our apartment are a wine shop, some bakeries, two supermarkets and a lot of small cafes and restaurants. North of our apartment is located the very famous Baroque Basilica da Estrela. And directly to this cultural historical highlight a botanical garden is adjoining. In the south of our place of residence the large museum Arte Antiga invites for a visit. From this museum you have a splendid view on the port with its Docas, the favourite Lisbon district for an evening walk. In the area you can discover a lot of interesting attractions, old aristocratic palaces, small stores supplied with the original antique furniture. Taking the famous tram Nr.28 you can start from the Basilica da Estrela to an exciting city tour.

The Lisbon / Central Lisbon area

Lisbon is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. We recommend you the traditional folk festival in June "Santo Antonio". In the winter months Lisbon is an attractive city as well. The atmosphere with the unqiue sun light is very special in the months of November - February.
A very pleasant party is the famous and hot carnival in February.

The Lisbon international airport is 10 km from our apartment situated. You can take the bus until the Rossio square and then please take the tram No.28. Please leave the tram at the station Parlament or Estrela church.
We recommend you to take the taxi from the airport as well. The price is about 10 EUR to our apartment in Lapa.

Dear Witold, We are now back in Australia and I am writing to say that we greatly enjoyed our time at your apartment in Lisboa! The apartment was clean and very well situated and we found the streets of the Alfama very interesting. On the evening before we departed, Dona Adalia gave me a very nice bouquet of flowers for my birthday. As it was impossible for me to take these flowers on the aeroplane, I had to leave them in the apartment. I hope this did not cause offence to her. I left a note to explain why I had to leave the flowers behind, but her English is poor and my Portuguese is worse! When you next talk to her, will you please convey my thanks, and explain again that I am sorry I had so little time to enjoy her present? While we were in Lisboa, the weather was cool and sometimes a bit of rain fell. But for Aussies, who have so much summer, this was not a problem! We enjoyed the cooler weather. Just wanted to follow up with you after our wonderful stay in Lisbon in May. My daughter, Kate Francis and I, leased your Lapa I apartment at Rua da Lapa from May 14 through May 24. We could not have enjoyed ourselves more and our lovely apartment and the kind and generous attention of our landlady, Mrs. Emilia, was probably the highlight of our trip. A daily arrival is possible. The minimum stay are 1 night. During the winter season price reductions according to agreement are possible, from a stay of one week. When booking we kindly ask for a deposit of 100 EUR. This sum counts as a rental retreat fee up to 30 days before the rent starts. From 30 days before the beginning of the rent the rental retreat fee is the complete rental rate, if we cannot find a substitute.

Cleaning of the apartment for 2 persons 45 EUR, for 3 persons 55 EUR and for 4 persons 65 EUR. Towels and bed-linen are provided. Electricity, gas and water are inclusive.
