The Costa de Lisboa/Lisbon region
Lisbon, the city of seven hills, has been the capital of Portugal since the 12th century. It has a long history that can be experienced in the old neighbourhoods, which may be visited by foot or tram. The Atlantic climate offers wonderful conditions to travel all year round.
Lisbon bears the mark of an incredible heritage with laid-back pride. The city also presents an intriguing variety of faces to those who negotiate its switchback streets. In the oldest neighbourhoods, stepped alleys are lined with pastel-colour houses and crossed by laundry hung out to dry; here and there miradouros (vantage points) afford spectacular river or city views. In the centre, black-and-white mosaic cobblestone side-walks border wide boulevards, and blue-and-white azulejos (painted and glazed ceramic tiles) adorn churches, restaurants, and fountains.
The apartment 109 is located at Bairro Alto (BA) in the same building, next door to the marvellous garden Príncipe Real.
There are three public car parks within 3 minutes walking distance.
BA dates back to the 16th century and is characterized by its small workshops and restaurants. By day, it is a quiet sleepy area (recently pedestrianised); by night the area becomes alive and is a popular place to dine and drink away the early hours.
Príncipe Real is an elegant 18C and 19C neighbourhood with a pleasant centenarian park having a quiet open air café and the water museum – Museu da água). In the neighbourhood, there are several very good restaurants and bars, all kind of commerce, including antique shops, the park of Principe Real and the oldest Botanical Garden of Lisbon and the Botanical Garden (Jardim Botânico) of the University Clássica of Lisbon. You can also go to all the restaurants and bars of Bairro Alto where the sentimental 'fados' are still sung in some restaurants and cafés.
The apartment is a short walking distance from the other picturesque neighbourhoods of Baixa, Chiado, and Alfama, where you can find the historic Castle (S. Jorge). It is also walking distance to the subway (the closest is Baixa-Chiado) and train stations (Cais do Sodré) that can take you to the beautiful beaches around Cascais.
A 5 minute walk takes you to Rossio, in Baixa, and to the Elevador da Gloria (Time Table), arriving in Avenida da Liberdade. In the other direction, by the river Tagus (Rio Tejo), you can find Praça do Comércio, centre of the old Portuguese empire. It is close to shops, restaurants, cafés, banks, cash machines, public transport (inc subway Baixa/Chiado station and electric trams) 24 hour taxi stands, etc.

Hello Susanne and Thomas,
Thank you for the review!
I have checked in our system and in December will be your 8th time with us!
Well...what can I say?
Number 109 is a really nice apartment and Principe Real a very sympathetic neighborhood.
We have already tried different solutions for the shower drain, but unfortunately it is a problem related with the building plumbing.
Raul sent he's regards too! :0)
And we will always care!
Obrigado and see you soon!
