The Costa de Lisboa/Lisbon region
Lisbon has a warm climate all year. A cool summer breeze from the Atlantic will refresh you in the sunny afternoons. In the winter the warm temperature invites you for a walk, since it's always around 13ºC. It's a city with over 2000 years of history. It's a city surrounded by beautiful sites: we advise Sintra, Cascais, Arrabida, Mafra, Guincho, Obidos, etc.
Lisbon is a city where everything can happen: from the Cow Parade to the Route of the Monuments Festival, to the Lisboa Magic Festival or the First Tall Ships' Race. In June enjoy the Lisbon Popular Festivities, also known as Santo Antonio's Festival, with music concerts, parades and lots and lots of sardines throughout the all month!
Monuments, museums, beautiful and quiet gardens or busy commercial streets. A town that will dazzle you with it's life, energy and warmth.

Lisbon / Alfama area
Visiting Alfama is to visit the architecture, the sounds and the smells of old Lisbon. This is one of the most typical quarters of Lisbon. On its narrow and winding streets you'll find the hidden treasure of Alfama and on its steep stairs you will be able to breathe the soul of Lisbon. Alfama is Lisbon's most emblematic quarter and one of the most rewarding for walkers and photographers thanks to its medieval alleys and outstanding views. Because its foundation is dense bedrock, it survived the 1755 earthquake, and a walk through this old-fashioned residential neighbourhood is now a step back in time. It is a village within a city still made up of narrow streets, tiny squares, churches, and whitewashed houses with wrought-iron balconies adorned with pots of flowers, drying laundry, and caged birds.
It was settled by the Romans and Visigoths (it was also an important Jewish quarter in the 15th century), but it was the Moors who gave the district its atmosphere and name (alhama means springs or bath, a reference to the hot springs found in the area). They were also responsible for its web of streets created as a defence system, while at the same time enabling their homes to remain cool in the summer.
Alfama has influenced poets and novelists, and although Bairro Alto is the city's traditional Fado quarter, it is Alfama that has always been the inspiration for Fado songs, and is becoming just as popular with Fado Houses.
The district has an intangible quality that needs to be experienced to be truly appreciated, and the best way to get to know it is to get a little lost (something almost impossible to avoid), and wander around admiring the postcard-perfect views, visiting the churches, and walking up to the castle for the most breathtaking panorama of the city and the greatest sunsets.
Contrasting with these timeless images is a trendy modern development by the waterfront across from Santa Apolónia train station. It houses stylish design shops, restaurants, and one of Europe's top clubs, "Lux."
How to get there
Fly to Lisbon - Lisbon City centre is just 5 km from the airport. Alfama quarter is well provided with public transportation and it's within walking distance of Baixa, Chiado, Bairro Alto and adjacent to Castelo. The car is not advisable in the historic centre because parking is complicated. The house is located near the train stations of Santa Apolonia, Cais do Sodré and Rossio, which will take you to North of Portugal, Cascais coast and Sintra, World Heritage village. In case there's interest in knowing Lisbon's surroundings , it's easy to rent a car for a day or two.
At the airport there are always local taxis, but be wary as it's usual they overcharge tourists. We can provide for personal transportation or to buy the taxi voucher at the airport

"The flat is really great and close to different transports. You'll have everything you need in the flat to feel at home. Helena and Rita are really very nice and helpful if you need informations concerning your stay in Lisboa. For sure if you rent this flat, you'll love it!”
