About the home

The perfect low cost family holiday home right in the midst of Central Europe's most beautiful mountain range, the Tatras.

A short drive from the areas main town of Mikulas, the chalet provides comfortable accommodation for 8 people with beds arranged in twins and singles over 3 bedrooms. The master bedroom is ideal for a family or group of four whilst a comprehensively equipped kitchen even includes a washing machine just in case you're in need of clean clothes.

Within easy walking distance of the chalet is the Mara lake which offers everything from fishing to wake-boarding, or simply lay back and enjoy a cold beer in the sun, or even a sundowner under one of the many stunning sunsets.

Also within walking distance is the areas largest aquapark, Tatralandia, which with thermal waters and wellness centre to appeal to the adults, will keep the kids entertained all day on the slides and in the pools.

Drive into the mountains, and there are many places to aim for, and not only will you be struck by the beauty of the area, you will also open up a world of rambling walks, horse trekking, mountain biking, kayaking and white water rafting. And thanks to a massive investment in lifts, you can reach the top of the mountains without breaking into too much of a sweat. Slovakia's premier golf course, which nestles beneath the High Tatras, is 45 minutes away by car.

Mountain places to visit include Vlkolinec, a high up, traditional Slovak village whch is a Unesco Heritage site with wonderful views; Strebske Pleso with its glacial lake and fabulous walks; Lomnicky Stit, again with wonderful views set up in the High Tatras; the river walks at Prosie; Orava castle and Zerhra, a Unesco protected church; and if you are feeling adventurous, Liptovecastle ruins which takes you through a forest walk including a natural thermal spring where you can take a dip to help cool off.

If you head up the road towards Jasna in the Low tatras you will come to the impressive cave and ice cave at Demanovska and, a little further up the valley, there is also a really good spa at Lucky, an area which also has a waterfall which you can walk to the top off - an idyllic photo spot! Another good spa is at Besenova, the other end of the Mara lake.

And after all of that, you can barbeque at your home while the kids play safely by the house in the garden and adjacent fields.

This part of central europe is just waiting to be discovered and its easy to get there and most people speak good English. And on top of all of that, the numerous restaurants in the area offer high quality cuisine and prices that will astound you for their value for money. But if you prefer to cook, the local town of Mikulas has ample shopping including, of course, a large Tesco.

The chalet is one in a row of newly built holiday homes, very comfortable with a garden, terrace and balcony and stunning views over the mountains both to the South and North. The kitchen is comprehensively equipped and the lounge features a wood burning stove in addition to the central heating, a music system and a TV with digital freeview which picks up most sports. The chalet is fully furnished and is rented complete with linen and towels and bookings can be tailored to your exact requirements.

A car port and driveway provides space for two vehicles, three at a push. There is a charcoal fueled barbecue which can be set up on the terrace complete with garden furniture and the gardens and adjacent fields provide plenty of safe space for children to play.

Conditions

Rental periods are flexible and can be tailored to your exact requirements, although Saturday turnarounds and seven day stays are favoured during the peak summer periods. The chalet is also superbly situated for skiing with the Slovak season stretching from early December through to late April. Jasna, central Europe's largest ski resort, is a 20 minute drive from the chalet. Please ask for details.

The Central Slovakia / Low Tatras region

Nestling in the valley between the High and Low Tatra mountain ranges, the chalet is in the picturesque village of Liptovsky Trnovec, close to the shore of the Liptov Mare lake in what is one of the beautiful areas of Central Europe. During the winter the mountain regions are snow sure from December through to late April, with tree lined skiing a feature of the Jasna resort which offers a multitude of blue, red and black pistes on the Chopok mountain. The local town, Liptov Mikulas houses the local shopping including a Tescos, so stocking up supplies is an easy task. The town also features a number of bars and restaurants which offer high quality local cuisine at prices you simply thought you'd never see again.

The Liptovsky Trnovec area

Less than 2km from the chalet lies Tatralandia, one of Central Europes most popular thermal aqua parks. WIth waters naturally heated by the earth to 32 degrees centigrade this is an unmissable experience for those wishing to swim outside whilst it's snowing! And for the more adventurous Tartalandia offers an array of high octane water rides as well as spa and massage treatments. For lovers of winter sports, Jasna has a number of on-piste bars which provide excellent hospitality during a days skiing as well as apres ski which includes live music, food, discos and even night skiing should you wish. Ski schools are well priced, especially for one to one lessons, speak English and are child friendly. Equipment can be hired in Jasna and left securely overnight in the rental shops. And for the rest of the year, active types can get out into the mountains on horseback, mountain bikes, white water rafts, kayaks or even your own feet! Wakeboarding is available on the Mare lake which also offers fantastic fishing, pleasure boat trips and many places to swim and sun bathe. The local area is steeped in history and natural beauty with plenty of spots to visit to learn about Slovakian culture and life in central europe. A fabulous holiday of discovery.

Fly to Bratislava, Ryan Air do cheap flights from a selection of UK airports, hire a car which is cheaper than many European destinations, and drive on Slovakia's new motorway which takes 2 and a half to 3 hours to reach the chalet. Full directions and advice on car hire available on booking. Alternatively, airport transfers can be arranged on request as can drop offs and collections to and from the Jasna ski resort.

“good accomodation for short ski break” went as group of friends for 5 day ski trip all worked well. Low cost airline and ok car journey. Chalet fine, 6 adults fitted in easily. Very alpine feel lots of wood, warm with everything you need.... more

“What a fantastic Skiing holiday! Great location and value.” We were a party of 6 adults not really sure what to expect from the slopes of Slovakia apart from knowing it was going to be much cheaper then some of the alternatives. We flew from London to Bratislava cheaply with Ryanair and hired a car from the airport - very quick and easy. The motorway is 1 minute away and the drive took us about 2.5hrs. The ski chalet is in Trnovec is a pleasant village by a huge lake. All the bedrooms are all a good size with one of them big enough for a whole family.. The village has a small but well stocked shop and there's a Pizza restaurant which is really good. The Jasna ski resort is an easy drive, about 20 minutes passing by the local Tesco – good for buying the beer on the way home again at the end of the day!). It's divided into three lift areas and each has its own car park. The skiing is good for beginners, excellent for intermediates and good for experts, especially when there's plenty of natural snow as then you have the whole of the top half of the mountain to play on. Most runs have snow cannons so it's very snow sure and there's lots of tree lined runs which give you protection when the weather's bad. Nearly all the lifts are new and there's plenty of bars and restaurants on the slopes. But what really makes this place stand out is the prices. On the slopes a beer was just €1.30 and a really good lunch with a drink was around €4. Head into the main town of Liptovsky Mikulas and things get cheaper again, but the quality is always high. The ski school seems to be very good value as well with plenty of English speaking instructors. We popped in to the local aqua park one evening - it's huge and there's loads of naturally heated spa pools as well as plenty of water slides. A great way to relax after a day on the slopes and it's less than 5 mins drive from the house. Kids would love it. Slovakia is a well kept secret, I will definitely be going back !
