Home description

The Cottage is located within the boundary of the Lower Tatras National Park in the stunning heavily treed Demanova Valley (Demanovska Dolina). It is in a small hamlet just outside the village of Pavcina Lehota. Here there is a shop, a couple of restaurants and a lovely ski hill called Ziarce with a couple of runs and night sking on offer. The restaurant at the Tri Studnicky Hotel offers some of the best food in Slovakia and is only five minutes walk away across a winding stream that runs directly in front of the cottage.

It is a perfect location for either a winter or summer holiday. Skiing is available just five minutes drive away at Slovakia's largest resort of Jasna, and there are numerous other smaller ski hills within a short drive. Just up the road are the famous and spectacular Ice Caves which are well worth a visit.

In the summer there is mountain biking, walking, aqua parks, water sports, and lots of history to explore. The local food is excellent and you will definitely have to keep active to stop from gaining a few pounds!

The cottage is rented out all year round on a self catering basis. However, we have a local American friend who has lived in the area for many years and would be on hand to provide advice and act as your guide where necessary for a small additional fee.

The Central Slovakia / Low Tatras region

Five minutes drive up in to the mountains and you will be at Jasna, the biggest ski resort in Slovakia, not to mention the most beautiful. See www.jasna.sk/en/winter/ for more details.

There is a great mixture of runs for skiers of all levels and prices are incredibly cheap when compared to the main European ski destinations. Jasna, is also a hive of activity in the summer, with mountain bike trails, walking, Tarzania tree climbing and many other activities.

Liptovsky Mikulas / Demanovska Dolina Valley area

The main town of Liptovsky Mikulas is less than 10 minutes by car, or can be reached by a regular bus service. Here you will find big supermarket chains, local shops, countless bars, cafes and restaurants and a lovely old town at the centre.

15 minutes drive will take you to Liptovska Mara, the largest lake in Slovakia, for all water related activities. Also here you will find Tatralandia, a massive thermal aquapark - www.tatralandia.sk. You will also find Besanova and AquaCity water parks within 35 minutes drive.

There is also a great deal of history to explore with numerous castles, churches and ancient villages to visit within easy reach.

How to get there

Nearest airport is Poprad which is a 35 minute drive. Flights are with Danube Wings from Luton and Manchester - www.danubewings.com.

For more flexibility and usually cheaper prices you can fly to Bratislava which is a three hour drive to the property.

This is a very easy drive predominately on the main motorway. Flights go from various UK locations with either Danube Wings or Ryan Air - www.ryanair.com.

Further options would be flying to Vienna, Krakow or Katowice all of which are a four hour drive. Other airlines to try for these destinations are Wizz - www.wizzair.com or Easyjet - www.easyjet.com.

All the major car hire firms operate out of Bratislava and some from Poprad also. For a list of those available look at the airport website - www.airportbratislava.sk/54.html.

Price start from less than 200 Euros for a week.

While seemingly in the middle of nowhere, the cottage is only five minutes of the main motorway and 10 minutes from Liptovsky Mikulas, so is very easy to find. Full directions will be given.

Alternatively, the train runs from Bratislava to Liptovsky Milulas about 8 times a day, takes four hours, and costs around 10 Euros per person. To check your train times see www.bahn.co.uk.

Further details indoors:
There are four bedrooms that can comfortably cater for 8, but it would be possible to sleep 10. Upstairs, bedroom 1 has twin beds and fully sprung single sofa-bed, and has a generous sized balcony. Bedroom 2 has a queen sized double bed and a fully sprung double sofa-bed, and has views over the neighbouring stream. Downstairs, bedroom 3 has a single bed and a fully sprung sofa-bed, and leads through to bedroom 4 with a further single bed. Sofa beds can be re-positioned to other bedrroms if required.

There is a fully equipped kitchen and a spacious living room / dining room with a small balcony offering views over the stream and across the valley. There is also a real log fire which is perfect for those cold winter nights.
The is a large shower room with w.c. and also a second w.c. located upstairs.

Note: Both sets of stairs a quite steep and may not be suitable for someone with limited mobility. This is especially the case for bedrooms 3 and 4 which are accessed via space-saver stairs

Further details outdoors:
Outside there is a seating area and a large brick BBQ in a spacious open plan garden. Parking is opposite to cottage, which is accessed via a short stepped path.

£100 deposit required at time of booking. Balance, including £200 returnable bond is due 6 weeks before your stay. The bond will be returned within one week from the end of your stay.

Four night stay charged at 80% of weekly rate.

Payment can be made by cheque or bank transfer in British Pounds.

The cottage is available after 3pm on the day of arrival.

Guests must vacate the cottage by 10am on the day of departure.
