The West Lothian region

Situated centrally between Edinburgh and Glasgow the region of West Lothian is steeped in history. There are lots of places of interest to visit, beautiful countryside with rolling hills, yet near Edinburgh and Glasgow if you decide to go and soak up the atmosphere in two of Scotland's major cities. Edinburgh is a fantastic city to visit and, with Christmas not too far away and the famous Street Party at Hogmanay, you will be sure to celebrate bringing in the New Year 2015.

Linlithgow is a beautiful town, only 4 miles away from Woodland View, with Linlithgow Palace accessible from the High Street. Linlithgow Loch offers tranquility if you wish to have a quiet stroll whilst enjoying the scenery. There are shops and several tea-rooms in Linlithgow. It also offers good quality restaurants if you wish to celebrate a special occasion.

The house is only a 15 mins drive from the Forth Road and Rail Bridges. The Forth Road Bridge is 50 years old this year. If you visit South Queensferry you'll have a great opportunity to take in the views of the Bridges.

If you fancy some retail therapy without going into Edinburgh or Glasgow, we're only a 10 mins drive from The Centre and Designer Outlet at Livingston.

Whatever you choose to do, there's definitely something for everyone in the locality and if you decide to travel further afield, we're only an hour's drive away from Callander, Gateway to the Scottish Highlands.

The house is in the rural village of Ecclesmachan. The village is situated in beautiful countryside and is regularly admired by all visitors for its picturesque surroundings. The village is a quiet, friendly place to spend your holiday yet it's only 4 miles from the historic town of Linlithgow where you have a variety of shops, pubs, restaurants and things to do. From there, it's only a 20 min train journey into Edinburgh and 35 min into Glasgow. There are many places of interest in the locality for adults and children such as Linlithgow Palace, the Falkirk Wheel, Almond Valley Heritage Centre, to name but a few. We're also near the Forth Road and Rail Bridges, a fantastic tourist attraction. Another popular attraction is Edinburgh Zoo where you can visit the Pandas and Koalas. We also have a smaller zoo nearby, Five Sisters Zoo, where you can visit the Brown Bears, Meerkats, Scottish Wildcats amongst other animals. It's a fantastic day out!

The countryside surrounding the village is picturesque so you may want to enjoy some of the walking routes around the area. There's something for everyone to enjoy. There are bus and rail links into Edinburgh and Glasgow.

There are several golf courses in the area too. Our local Pay and Play Course at Oatridge offers a 50% discount for all guests staying at Woodland View.

You'll enjoy the variety of places of interest and things to do that West Lothian offers and, being central to Edinburgh and Glasgow, you'll be spoilt for choice to ensure you have a fantastic holiday.

"Spotless place in a wonderfully quiet village"

I chose this place based on the good reviews and my desire to be in a quiet place. The house and the area was as advertised with no unpleasant suprises. The house itself was very clean, well equipped,… More

Hi Ozge, thank you for your review. I'm pleased you enjoyed the house and the nearby woodland walk. I'm so sorry you didn't find the double-bed very comfortable. It's a new bed with a medium mattress and I realise it may not be suitable for everyone. I'm grateful for your comment about the curtains in the front bedroom. I hadn't actually thought about the morning sunshine streaming in (when we get sunshine!) so I will look to change the curtains very soon. It was a pleasure to meet you both and I do hope we meet again in the future.
Best wishes, Joyce

"Comfortable home with great access to Edinburgh, Stirling & Glasgow, amongst others"

The owners of this property have done an incredible job making it a tasteful, comfortable, and very well-equipped holiday rental. We stayed here in January 2014 with our three young children. Joyce had absolutely everything we needed, including a generous stock of essentials in the kitchen as well as a roaring fire to welcome us. The decor is stylish and the bedding and linens were some of the most comfortable we've ever had whilst on holiday! We chose Ecclesmachan because of a wedding we were to attend in Stirling, and also hoped to visit Edinburgh. Both were very easy to drive to, and the village of Linlithgow also has much to offer. As a family with young kids, we are always very appreciative of conscientious home owners who think of the small things. Joyce and Dave certainly fit the bill!
