Attentive hosts, little details make this such a home from home (including lemon drizzle cake) and such a great location too. Stranded for a week whilst snow caused havoc and Tim armed with a shopping list and a four wheel drive did our shopping, with calls to see if we were ok - it's such a pleasant change to find people who care. Money doesn't buy this! |

Badger lodge where we stayed was the best equipped holiday let we have ever had. It was ideally suited to a family with a toddler and to grandparents alike. The extra details such as tea, coffee and sugar together with the fruit and milk were especially welcome, as was the lemon cake! It was in a peaceful setting within reach of many interesting places. A good place to come back to after a day out. Also there were not to many lodges/people so we all had plenty of space. My only moan would be that dogs had to be on a lead everywhere. As a owner with a dog that love to run, it was a little difficult at times. I feel there could have been a field set aside where dogs could let off some steam. We really love the wildlife about and it was a good place for bird watching. with a disabled husband, I was very satisfied with the help given and with the space in the lodge for him to move about. |

Guestbook for Lapwing Lodge
We bought this present as a Christmas present for out partners, what a present!- how will we top this? Never! Beautiful, peaceful surroundings. Welcome pack was great. Kids didn’t want to go home, neither did the men - who would wish a fishing pond just outside the door. Thank you all, sure we will visit again.
Our 4th visit - and it just gets better and better! A super family break and the perfect antidote to the stress and strain of work, chores and mortgage payments! See you soon - and thanks for the chocolate cake, it was fabulous!
Katie and family made our stay at Rural Roosts very enjoyable, relaxing and worry free. Having two small children uprooted for a week away from home can be a daunting prospect but all our needs were catered for which made the whole stay even more enjoyable. We appreciated the attention to detail, even a lovely cake for our arrival. All in all we would recommend the cabins to anyone!
Totally relaxing. Excellent fishing. The hospitality could not be any better. The lodge is superb - coming back very soon!
The lodge is very comfortable and furnished to a high standard, also the many little extras provided were very much appreciated. The lakeside setting, the wildlife, the peace and tranquillity all adds up to ‘’a little piece of heaven’’. Thankyou.
lodge was beautifull very homely and welcoming, the lemon drizzle cake on arrival is a must to try,we didnt expect too catch any fish but we did,it was a very peacful and relaxing weekend away, recommend to everyone
Excellent accomodation, everything that is needed to make your stay comfortable is included. Extremely quiet, lots of nice walks, my man was fishing from early morning to late afternoon so must have been good.
The return of Fishing 1 yet again we found the lodge to be excellent could not fault the welcome pack. The fishing this year was brilliant a total catch of 176 Ib of carp over 4 days + 3 roach. Dont be fooled by the size of the fish they put up a good fight and are in very good condition. I said to Tim has we left that we could retire here and relax all the time its so nice and peacefull. Watch out for the barn owl its beautiful in flight [
It was a big birthday suprise that my wife bought me this year the return to Rural Roosts. Yet again top accomadation with a very nice welcome pack with yes(Lemon drizzle cake)The fishing was excellent with a total catch of 176lb of mixed carp the weather was brilliant making our holiday very good. The cottage (Woodpecker) was of high standered and Tim & Katie were very pleasnt friendly people. Watch out for wild life especially the Barn Owl and watch out for the big fish he sneaks up on you. The saying for fishermen is snoze you loose be warned. Once again T + K thank you
Brilliant break, spotless comfortable thought of everything. Sound of the birds only broken by th efish jumping out of the lake. Will be going back for longer next time
The pine lodge was really first class in every respect. The welcome pack was excellent, especially the lemon drizzle cake. Both Katie and Tim were very helpfull and friendly. My wife and I found it very relaxing and were suprised by how roomy it was in the lodge as well as very comfortable. I enjoyed the fishing in the well stocked lake. The points of interest mentioned on the Rural Roosts web site were well worth the visits.
Booking was really easy and Katie is extremely polite and helpful regarding all aspects of your holiday. I can't find anything to fault. The free welcome pack is excellent, tea, coffee, milk, butter, bread and fruit, not to mention a wonderful lemon drizzel cake which alone would be worth the trip! The lodge was clean and cosy, all linen etc was provided; you really didn't need to think of anything. We would recommend that each day you are there, you make an effort to be up for daybreak, around at sunset and a look at the stars at night - peaceful bliss is the only way to describe it. We will certainly return.
Beautiful location, we went to chill out and that is exactly what we did. The ambiance was peaceful and quiet - the lodge was superb comfy and cosy with just about everything you could think of in it, obviously a lot of thought had gone into the whole set-up. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves my husband fishing and myself painting and we will definately be back (which by the way is something we don't normally do - pastures new and all that).
Exceptional accommodation. On arrival you can see that Katie and Tim (Owners) have put a lot of thought and attention into even the slightest details. Fishing was great, lodge was comfortable and never felt a chill whilst inside. Best self catering fishing holiday we have experienced, would look to visit again!!
Wow, fantastic lodge for a relaxing family holiday. We stayed in Lapwing and the standard of cleanliness and internal fixtures and fittings were the best I have ever had self catering. We will certainly return in 2010 cannot praise highly enough, 10/10
what a wondefull rest at a top location myself and wife had a very nice relaxing rest. The quality of the lodge was second to none. It was like home from home. I had a lovely time fishing and my wife was reading/supplying coffe for me
My Husband & I spent a really wonderful peaceful week at Rural Roosts, Katie and Tim the owners couldn't be more helpful, everything you needed right down to a lovely lemon cake waiting for you when you arrive, the lodges are very spacious and beautifully laid out fully equipped. The location is very handy for all the local attractions and if anybody is interested in aviation history all the airbases are close by that were used in the war, we visited the BBMF very interesting day out. There is fishing right on your doorstep just walk out you door and you're there, all in all a truly magnificent place, if you are looking for a place that is peaceful and relaxing it's definitely for you.
