Located close to the Pyrenees and Corbiere mountains, Limoux is a wonderful town for a summer or winter break. The renowned city of Carcassonne is only half an hour away , while Toulouse and Narbonne are only just over 1 hour away.

Limoux has an excellent municipal swimming pool and the area is great for cycling , canoeing and running. The Mediterranean is only just over 1 hour away with a fantastic beach at Narbonne Plage. White water sports including rafting are available in the Alet-Les-Bain/Quillan area and kayaking from Limoux itself.. Winter sports fans are catered for by various resorts in the Pyrenees including Ax-Les-Thermes which is just over 1 hour away and reaches a height of 2400 metres.

Limoux is in the heart of the historic Cathar country and provides easy access to many historic buildings including the UNESCO World Heritage Listed cite of Carcassonne, the castles of Peyrepertuse, Queribus, Puilaurens to mention just a few. And dont forget the 17th century Canal Du Midi accessible from various points including Carcassonne and Beziers.

There are many museums and galleries in the area including in Limoux a small but excellent art gallery as well as a piano museum; at Esperaza there is a dinosaur museum, as well as a hat museum; the Canal du Midi museum is at Saint Ferreol .

The apartment itself is located on the banks of the beautiful River Aude and has been recently renovated and decorated in a modern style, and has an art deco style exterior. There are 3 double bedrooms , an open plan kitchen , a lounge with sunny balcony , dining room , toilet and separate shower room. The third bedroom has a sofa bed and so is ideally suited for children. At present because of the re-positioning of the Astra satellite there is no satellite TV , but if you bring a laptop UK TV is available through Filmon. There is a Blueray disk player CD players and SKY News is available.

There is a shared garden area facing the River Aude to the rear, for relaxing , firing up the barbeque etc., and the excellent local swimming pool (outdoor in the summer and indoors in the winter) is a minutes walk away. The parcours de sante (health park) with lots of outdoor exercise equipment is only a minute away and leads down to the banks of the River Aude where we even have a little "beach". You can walk along the river bank to the centre of town in only 10 minutes.

The tennis club and kayaking centre are situated on the same complex as the swimming pool.

The centre of Limoux has a large number of independent shops, cafes, bistros and restaurants. For a drink try the famous Blanquette de Limoux - the first brut in the world, or many other local wines including the excellent Cotes De Malepere reds or Corbieres or Minervois for example. As for eating why not try a local cassoulet, or a fricassee de Limoux.

The Place De La Republique is the hub of the town and has regular entertainment throughout the summer months.

"Lovely Base to explore Southern France"

Iain the owner of the accommodation could not of made us feel more welcome The booking of the accommodation went very smoothly.
The apartment is on the first floor of a block of apartments, there is ample free parking immediately outdoors.
There are three decent sized double bedrooms, one of which has an aircon unit, the shower room has a good powerful shower with plenty of hot water. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils if you which to eat in and there is a washing machine.
The lounge area has a flat screen TV and Blu-ray/DVD player , and there is wifi also if you wish to keep in touch on line, vital if you travel with kids/teenagers these days ! There are plenty of maps and guidebooks on the region available to hand and a balcony to read them on.
The apartment is only a short walk from the character town centre of Limoux which has ample choice of restaurants and small shops. There is a good sized supermarket a few minutes drive away.
Limoux is within easy reach to historic Carcassonne with its ancient castle. There is a train station a short stroll away which only costs 1 Euro to get to Carcassonne, from Carcassonne you can travel further afield. We hired a car from Carcassonne airport on arrival to explore the area. Lovely beaches are just over 1 hours drive away.
Limoux is based around the river Aude and there is canoeing very close to the apartment and a municipal swimming pool too ( bring Speedos, traditional swimming costumes ) and Limoux is famous for its sparkling white wine, the area in general is renowned for its wine production.
So overall would certainly recommend the apartment and its location.

"Great holiday in the foothills of the Pyrenees."

The apartment is located on the first floor of a large, uninspiring block of flats. The apartment is 3 double bedroomed, well equipped, bright and spacious. The block is on the river bank by the weir, the noise of which is soporific on a hot summer evening. It was a short stroll along the river to the bars and restaurants of the quaint square of Limoux. Even closer, up stream, was a municipal sports centre with tennis courts and swimming pool. Next to that is a canoe centre which transported us up stream where we paddled along the river Aude back to Limoux.

From Limoux we took the train to Carcassonne. The arrival station is in the centre of the modern town, next to the Midi canal. From there we walked to the old walled Citti. This was the highlight of our holiday, it can be very busy but we still went a couple of times; it mustn't be missed,

South from Limoux we drove into the foothills of the Pyrenees following the course of the river. Towering above the valley are ruins of Cathar fortifications. We went to Peyrepertuse, a steep walk but worth it.

"Great location by river, close to town square"

Had a glorious week in Ian's apartment which is nicely decorated, fully equipped and dog friendly. The apartment is in a small complex next to the river with ample parking. The walk into the centre of Limoux is a pleasant 10 minutes along the river itself.
Limoux is a vibrant and buzzing small town that always seems to have a festival of some description going on. The week we were there, we saw the start of Stage 14 of the Tour de France (Bradley Wiggins, Mark Cavendish and all that), enjoyed a Food and Wine Festival and watched the Bastille Day fireworks.
The area around Limoux is beautiful as well. Carcassonne is only a 30 minutes drive, or take the 1 Euro train journey - bargain! Trips to Medieval Lagrasse and Mirepoix are a must as well.
If you want to see the sea, try a trip to Narbonne Plage, or the port, beaches and old town of Gruissan - each roughly an hour away.
