The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region

1 The moment you arrive you know you are near the Mediterranean - the crickets, the intoxicating smell of hot pine needles, thyme & the peppery scent of herbs in the sun confirm that you are in this vibrant area,

1 The Corbiere form a backdrop to the Mediterranean & are of volcanic origin, quite separate to the Pyrenees, rocky & heavily wooded with clear rivers for swimming & canyonning, renowned by the Romans for its gold, timber & wine; Many castles & mysteries to explore & puzzle over;
2 Castles - in almost every village & town, primarily, Arques, Auriac, Peyrepertuse, Quéribus, Termes, Villerouge & Rennes le Chateaux (villages of mysteries, possible site of the Holy Grail & Visigoth treasures, as mentioned in books holy blood holy grail & the de Vinci Code, together with the Kate Mosse's Labyrinth& Sepulchre) reminders of this era, these castles are striking witnesses to their tragic history but all are ready to explore, ruined, restored & occupied together with monasteries, abbeys, mills;
3 Villages, towns, museums, theatre, painting, potteries, music concerts, village fairs & fetes, regular markets including monthly antiques market in Limoux, language courses, collect wild fruits like chestnut & champignon, Roman thermal baths + therapy in Spa towns of Alet-les-Bains & Rennes-le-Bains

POOL towels maybe provided subject to a nominal 2€ laundry charge paid locally

Deposit/Booking - held against wilful careless damage, excessive cleaning, using towels or linen for outside use (other than drying on the washing line) etc., refundable within 1 week of vacating.
