The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region
There are numerous castles, chateaus (Rennes les Chateau) and Cathar ruins in the area. Drive through the Maleperes and Corbieres to enjoy the stunning scenery. The foothills of the Pyrennees are dramatic with vineyards. Swimming and water sports (not motorised) are available just past Chalabre at Lac Montbel. The Aude region has good links and easy access to safe, sandy beaches making it ideal for a family summer holiday, while its history, food, wine, landscape and sunny climate can be enjoyed throughout the year. Spain and Andorra are just 2 hours or so away. There is lots to see and do in the area.
Limoux / Routier area
The village of Alaigne, 3kms away, offers a small supermarket and cafe (La Galloise). Belveze du Razes, 5kms, offers banking facilities, pharmacy and small supermarkets for provisions. In Limoux, 11kms, provides a larger selection of shops etc.
The towns of Limoux and Mirapoix have markets on Fridays and Mondays respectively and are rich with local specialities, there are also number of other markets in the area. Limoux is also renowned for its Blanquette and Cremant made locally.
The town of Carcassonne and the walled medieval ‘La Cite’ steeped in history, is just 30 minutes away.
There are many activities and things to do in the area. Horse riding is available in the village. Golf can be played in Carcassonne, while another course is some 85kms away. Eating out in the many restaurants, to name a few is the Cafe in Alaigne and Maison Gayda, 10 mins. And of course wine tasting at the numerous local domaines/vineyards. We would be happy to arrange these prior to your arrival or during your stay.
