The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region
This beautiful area of France is rich in heratige and offers lots to see and do. South of Limoux is the spa town of Alet Les Bain and nearby is Rennes le Chateau with all its 'Da Vinci Code' intrigue. The medieval town of Mirepoix has an excellent Monday morning market which is not to be missed. A 25min drive away is the breathtaking medieval Cite of Carcassonne. Its fairytale turrets and towers were used in the film 'Camelot' and the cobbled streets have a wealth of things to explore. Watersports can be found at Lac Montbel near Chalabre and an excellent golf course is situated 6km south of Carcassonne. Take your pick of the chateaux dotted throughout this beautiful region to sample the delightful wines on offer and enjoy a relaxing evening at one of the many quality restaurants nearby. An hour east takes you to the beautiful Mediterranean coast at Narbonne and further south toward the Spanish border is the picturesque port town of Collioure.
Limoux / Cailhau area
Cailhau is a picturesue 'circulade' village which is set in an elevated position commanding spectacular views of the breathtaking pyrenees mountain range. Village fêtes are held throughout the region during the summer and they are the perfect opportunity to dive into the heart of French culture. The riverside town of Limoux, home of the famous Blanquette wine, is a 15min drive away and has a market every friday. The medievel town of Mirepoix has a wonderful market every monday.
