The Languedoc-Roussillon region

The Aude region is blessed with so much to do that no matter what your personal favourites might be there will be lots for you love doing and seeing within the very local area.

It is difficult to get through everything in just a week or two - so be prepared to keep coming back to this area that will steal away your heart.

There are many art festivals and museums to visit. Music plays a big part in the area - so there are lots of bands - if you get the chance you must visit the Fecos festival which runs from January to March. If you prefer more getting involved try white water rafting, canoeing, fishing, horse riding, cycling (The Tour de France started just 3.6kms from the front door in 2011 and 2012 and regularily the tour goes past / through Limoux) wine tasting, many special restaurants - a particular favourite being Chateaux Cavanac, swimming pools (Alet Les Bains), zoo, BBQ areas, vineyard visits, many fortified towns and villages, amazing history, stunning wildlife, awe inspirig views - and these are just a few things that will keep you active and amazed at the area!

- Visit the extraordinary fortified town of Carcassonne

- Cathar castles such as: Queribus, Peyrepertuse and Chateaux Lastours

- Perplex yourself with the peculiar mystery of Rennes-le-Chateau

- Take a dip in the warm springs of Rennes-les Bains

- And the natural spa of Alet-le-Bain

- Giant cave of Cabrespine – 1 of largest in Europe

- Take a trip on the Canal De Midi

- Sun yourself on the magnificent beach of Narbonne

- Check out Limoux's many festivals

- Indulge your artistic side – many schools & museums

- Watch the local Rugby Team – The Grizzly Bears or perhaps Toulouse and Perpignan

Aude is one of the departments of France that forms part of the Languedoc-Rousillon region of southern France. The Aude is also known affectionately as 'Cathar country' because of the strong links with the Cathars that occupied the region, predominantly in the 12th and 13th centuries. It is largely the monuments associated with the Cathars that are best known to tourists planning to visit, however, there is much more to enjoy as well.

The weather here is lovely and you can rely on a long hot summer - which is ideal for the many vineyards and olive groves you will see dotted around.
