The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region
This is one of the sunniest areas of France one where you can remember the rainy days because there are so few. A perfect climate to explore or just enjoy the sunshine. It would be a shame,though, not to do some exploring of this area steeped in history.You are after all in the heart of the Cathar country where you can relive the epic 13th century crusades against the heretics,visit the numerous Chateaux of the area, and no visit to the area would be complete without a visit to "La Cite Medieval" of Carcassonne. Limoux area
Limoux is a bustling riverside market town with a good variety of shops and restaurants in and around the traditional market square. There are numerous activities within short distances, water sports including rafting and kayaks. Horse riding, hiking, skiing in winter in the glorious Pyrenees. There are many festivals throughout the year in Limoux centred around the market square. A must is driving through the breathtaking gorges of the Aude and taking the waters in the natural spa's of Alet les Bains and Rennes les Bains. Something for everyone!
How to get there
Drive using A61 motorway, 30 mins from Carcassonne junction (23). Fly to Toulouse, just over 1 hours drive away. Perpignan airport 1 hour 45 mins drive Carcassonne airport 20 mins. (Budget flights available via Stansted, Liverpool and Dublin with Ryan air) Barcelona Girona airport is 2.5 hours drive away.
