BookThe Limassol region
Limassol, the second largest city and main port of Cyprus, is extremely cosmopolitan with many different shops, cafes, bars and restaurants, as well as sites of historical interest, such as the ancient castle where King Richard the First of England is said to have married his queen Berengeria. There is also a museum, handcraft centre and municipal gardens. The centre of Limassol also has many churches, and a large market near the bus station. Buses run to Nicosia, Paphos and other parts of the island. It is one of the best locations from which to explore other parts of Cyprus and enjoy all that the island has to offer.
Amathus area of Limassol, on the eastern edge, is close to the tourist area, and there are beaches and coastal promenades linking Amathus to the main town of Limassol. For those interested in a bit of culture, there is an archaeological site, uncovering an ancient Roman town, just on the edge of Limassol, very close to the Bayview complex. This site can be explored at your leisure.
There is a large selection of international restaurants located all over the city (including some of the worldwide chains). You couldn't fail to something that matches your taste in cuisine.
The two international airports at Larnaca and Paphos are respectively about 40 and 50 mins drive.
The following attractions are all within easy reach of Limassol: Waterpark at Fassouri at 17kms; Curium Beach and Roman theatre (which is still used for productions) at 20kms; Troodos approx 40 mins; Nicosia and Paphos both within one hour's drive. Simply superb central location from where you can experience all Cyprus' amenities. Cyprus enjoys sunshine for 10 out of the 12 months of the year, and even the winter months are mild (although sometimes there is snow!) From April through to October, the climate is warm and sunny, reaching very high temperatures in July and August.
The Limassol Town / Parekklisia area
Parakklesia district is to the east of the main city, which is accessible either by the main highway, or via the sea front road. The highway will also take you east towards Larnaca and Nicosia, and the famous Governor's Beach is a short drive along the highway eastwards. Governor's Beach has a restaurant and children's play equipment.
The property is also in a very convenient location from which to get out of town and explore some of the quieter villages away from the coast. Northwards takes you out in to the countryside, vineyards, towards Troodos, the mountains, donkey sanctuary at Vuoni and other attractions. Also close by is the Yermasoyia area which is excellent for walking enthusiasts with its nature walks and lakes.
Along the coast towards Paphos, you can see Aphrodite's Rock, where the legendary goddess is said to have arisen from the sea. It is said that in Cyprus, nowhere in the interior is more than one hour's drive from the coast, which means that you can cross the island from south coast to the north coast within a couple of hours.
Car hire, although not essential, is recommended in order to enjoy fully all that Cyprus has to offer.
