The Kurzeme region
The population of Liepaja region is 140 000 and makes up almost half of all Kurzeme region, which is located in the west of Latvia on the Baltic coast. It is a thriving area and benefits from a low tax environment. The main industries include metal processing, textile, food, paper production and ship building. The port in Liepaja is ice free which facilitates transportation between the west and east, including Russia.
The area has four distinctive seasons with Summer during the months of June, July and August and the colder season is during December, January and February.
Liepaja area
Liepaja city has a population of 87,000 and has a history dating back to the 13th Century. Walk around and view the largest collection of still erected wooden buildings. Visit the Museum (interior is of special architectural interest) and art galleries.
The streets are full of floral displays. Enjoy taking a tram ride in the old town. Browse the local market for crafts. Go on a walking guided tour of the old town. Visit nearby Karosta, which is a former military base.
Visit the Russian Orthodox Church and climb up the tower of Holy Trinity Church to view panoramic vistas over the old town. June: Jaunie Festival (longest day, 5 day holiday 23rd June) July: Baltic Beach party, Liepaja , Kurzeme Car Rally in August.
The town continuously hosts classical and rock music festivals, in particular July Baltic Beach Party and August the Kurzeme Rally, Liepaja. The local theatre has events throughout the entire year. There are many nightclubs and restaurants in the town.
Visit a beauty salon to be pampered, whilst not spending a fortune! Tennis courts for hire are next to the beach. The wide beach area is made up of the whitest fine sand in the Baltics. Lots of water activities available. The water from the Baltic is relatively shallow and therefore very warm to swim. Summers in Liepaja are stunning - blue skies and temperatures from 20 - 28 degrees, sunset at 11pm!
Autumn is special and Winter can be magical - one can watch the fisherman on the frozen canal fishing, if the weather is cold enough. Skies are still blue and days fine.
How to get there
Liepaja is located 200km to the west of Riga, on the Baltic coastline. FROM RIGA: Liepaja is accessible by car hire, train and by bus and also by mini bus from Riga.
Palanga (Lithuania) airport is 66km from Liepaja.
From the UK: Ryanair flies from Stansted to Riga, also Bristol to Riga. AirBaltic - Gatwick to Riga.
AirBaltic is available Riga to Palanga. Then catch bus Palanga to Liepaja.

Further details indoors: After a day out exploring the beautiful old town of Liepaja, return to lounge around on the white leather couches and relax. The area has many wonderful restaurants on the door step with international standard cuisine and extremely reasonable prices.
One can spend hours sitting by the canal across the road sipping on cocktails or having a coffee, watching the yachts sail into the harbour.

DURING YOUR STAY: Bath robes, beach towels, shampoo, toothpaste, dental floss, soap, facial wipes and tissues provided.
The property is cleaned a minimum of twice a week.
Further details outdoors: The apartment is situated in the old town, across from the busy, lively canal and yacht harbour. At the end of the street (a 8 minute walk) is the pristine Blue Flag beach.
The building is ex Soviet construction, typical of the 60s style, four storeys high and in a typical condition to be found in the common areas of buildings in the Baltic States.

A security deposit of 300 Euros is payable and is refundable as soon as the apartment is inspected and any deductions made for in the unfortunate event of any damage.
