About this location
The Sardinia region
It’s unsure where the name comes from, but Sardinia (Sardegna) historically has had a very different past than mainland Italy. The Carthaginians were the first to call the island Sardegna, while the Greeks referred to it as Ichnoussa (footstep), either because of its shape or because it was used as a stepping stone for Greek traders.
Furthest away from the mainland, the combination of geography and history has resulted in Sardinians assimilating and reinterpreting different influences and integrating them into their own unique culture—everything seems to be more authentic, more genuine in Sardegna!
Sardinians take great pride in their culture as reflected by their numerous festivals. Throughout the year, there are many festivals and fairs celebrating old traditions and customs, some religious and some pagan, often coinciding with the harvest and production of local products and delicacies, such as wine or honey. Every town and village has its culinary tradition in the form of distinctively-shaped breads, sweets, pastas, lobster, roasted pork, and other kinds of fish and meat.
The weather in Sardinia is hot and dry in summer, spring and autumn are particularly pleasant and winters are mild and humid with the occasional hot day. The island is surrounded by warm Mediterranean sea and its 1200 miles of coastline sees plenty of sun. Sardinia enjoys 7 hours of sunshine each day in April, rising to 11 hours in July. It is the perfect destination for a family beach holiday or a water sports holiday in the spring, summer and early autumn when visitors can enjoy the clear sea and explore the delightful coves.
The Sardinian sea not only looks beautiful but it stays warm all year. Even in the coldest months, January to March, the sea temperature does not fall below 13 °C. From June to September it’s 21-23 °C and in July and August it’s up 24 °C. The other factor that helps make Sardinia so popular with water sports enthusiasts is the sea breeze. Winds such as the Scirocco, the Minstral and the Levant vary from coast to coast and have made Sardinia a top destination for surfers, windsurfers and sailors.
Alghero is a picturesque port town and outstanding holiday resort on the north east coast of Sardinia. Alghero has a spectacular skyline of noble domes, red tiled roofs and mediaeval towers, and is home to a wide variety of quality hotels and holiday apartments. Classically Italian, Alghero is the place to sip cappuccinos, watch Vespas zip past and taste some of the world’s best seafood. Alghero’s historic centre is a mass of jumbled, cobbled streets - ideal for ambling, shopping and seeking out the town’s renowned restaurants. Your holiday in Alghero will feature exploration of the plazas, churches, towers and museums here, but you can also visit the many beautiful beaches of this area of Sardinia known as the Coral Riviera.
You will find excellent sandy beaches and a spectacular rugged coast on holiday in Alghero. From Alghero you can enjoy breath-taking views from the high cliffs of Capo Caccia. Also take a boat trip into Neptune’s Cave below to gasp at huge limestone stalagmites and stalagmites or go walking or horse riding on the sands of the beach at nearby Porto Ferro. Winter holidays in Alghero are becoming increasingly popular as this is a great base from which to explore the historic and natural sites of Sardinia, and the climate from November to March remains mild. In the summer season, Alghero holidays really take off, as visitors enjoy the Mediterranean sunshine and all this vibrant town has to offer.
While on holiday in Alghero be sure to seek out the beautiful silver jewellery which is traditionally crafted here. Alghero has countless boutiques and a busy weekly market. Another pastime to enjoy during your stay in Sardinia has to be eating. Great seafood is a given, but you’ll also find delicious lamb stews in the restaurants of Alghero, pasta with locally grown fennel or saffron and Malloreddus, a grooved semolina pasta which resembles gnocchi in taste and texture. Highly recommended are the mussel stews and roasted lobster dishes of Sardinia.

"Fantastic family holiday"
Had a fabulous family holiday. Location was great, close to supermarkets, good pizzeria/takeaway, beach bars and the beaches. The flat had a fully equipped kitchen, plenty of towels, bedding and was spotless. The owners were really helpful and friendly. The only downside to the whole stay was having to sleep with the windows open due to the heat and therefore being able to hear a bit of noise from the street above. Would recommend and would certainly stay here again.

"Terrible smell, not suitable for living at all"
This is not suitable for living at all! Dog poops, car gasoline just up on your head, terrible smell of humidity and mould. You could not sleep, not enough air. I want to forget this place.
The opinions expressed in this comment are absolutely groundless and false.
The flat is located in a new building that was built three years ago. You don't smell any kind of unpleasant odour from the outside, let alone inside the flat, which is cleaned regularly and freshly painted every year.
I assume that the guest who wrote these gratuitous charges is altered because at his arrival he demanded a private parking space to park his rental car. However in the announcement published there was never any mention of a private parking space.
Anyway thank you for being our guest.
