The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Gironde region

- Five minutes from the nearest town, Castillon La Bataille, where you will find banks, supermarkets, estate agents etc.

- Two minutes from a bathing lake with restaurant and bar.

- Fifteen minutes drive from chic and sophisticated St Emilion, the first UNESCO World Heritage site.

- Forty minutes from the splendid shops and restaurants of Bordeaux, and an hour and a half from the nearest beaches at Arcachon.

- Locally, within fifteen minutes, you can enjoy canoeing, riding, tennis, jet skiing, quad biking, and inland lakes with restaurants and water slides.

Restaurants: We're very lucky to be within a mile of a gem of a restaurant offering contemporary French cuisine in a stylish environment. La Poudette is a must for any guest with a gastronomic interest and particularly welcomes our guests who are very well looked after.

- A five minute drive over the hills will take you the Les Ramparts, a hotel run by an English couple whose cooking has casued a stir within the local community. The evening view over the hill is charming.

- St Emillion boasts a Michelin star restaurant, La Hostillerie Du Plaisance, which is impressive but not for the faint hearted diner. A little further afield, the St James' Hotel in Boulliac serves up a stunningly modern Menu Decouvert in the dining room of the original 'Hip Hotel'; pricey, but a memorable experience.

- Bordeaux, a 40 minute drive away, is of course heaving with fine gastronomic establishments which are listed in some detail at the chateau.

Libourne area

- There many other local restaurants serving regional specialities which of course include Fois Gras and everything duck related. During the summer months we also benefit from a typical French grill restaurant which is outdoors on the banks of the Dordogne.

Other: The closest town for shopping purposes is Castillon La Bataille, approximately four minutes drive away, and there is a different regional market within easy reach every day of the week.

- For days out and sightseeing the options are endless. These include the Rigaud Treasure Hunts: full and half day mystery tours which take our guests on a tour of our favourite places such as the World Heritage site of St Emilon, the bastide towns of Eymet, Monsegur and Duras, special vineyards, hidden castles, and beautiful river spots.

- There are several opportunities for a canoe descent on the Dordogne within a five minute drive, and three swimming lakes within half an hour. With water slides and restaurants, they please young and old alike. The beaches of the Atlantic coast are an hour and a half but worth it for a day trip. Riding is available locally, as is tennis on the brand new and hardly used village courts.

Further details indoors:
All of the bedrooms at the Chateau Rideaud feature enormous super king size double beds with crisp white sheets, luxury fake fur throws, iPod docks and complimentary REN products in the bathrooms. The first floor is home to seven of these huge double en-suite bedrooms, a child's dormitory and a huge playroom/crèche for younger children to enjoy.

Ground floor
The main Chateau kitchen is the heart of the house, overlooked by a splendid 15th Century fireplace and equipped with a brand new Aga, dishwasher, dining table for 10, and stereo. A utility room features a microwave, coffee machines, blenders, etc, and the larder space well stocked with cooking essentials. The laundry room houses various Bosch fridge freezers, two washing machines, and a tumble dryer: domestic bliss on a chateau scale.

- Step up from the kitchen into the Chapel Bar. Fully stocked and with as many cocktail glasses as any budding barman might aspire to, the bar also features a wall mounted plasma screen with Sky feed, keeping you abreast of the latest sports action. Alternatively, play your iPod through the system and use the screen as a giant jukebox.

- Double doors from the kitchen lead into the stately dining room which accommodates up to 20 seated for a formal dinner. There's a huge open fire at one end and a small library area where guests may choose from over 1000 titles of holiday reading.

- The entrance hall separates the oldest section of the chateau from the 17th Century wing where the family sitting room, with stunning deep red velvet and tafetta curtains, houses a widescreen TV with DVD and SKY box.

- A 40 metre corridor then stretches the length of the wing, opening onto a fully equipped Chef Kitchen. This enables a booked chef to cater for your party without interferring with any activities in your own Chateau kitchen, thus removing the feeling of intrusion which can occur when a catering team come into a private house.

- The snug, a small sitting room with wood burning stove, is replete with modern sofas and a retro 70's chandelier.

- The cinema delivers THX quality film projection to a three metre screen with tiered sloppy sofa seating for 18 .

- The Maroc lounge: this final lounge can be adapted according to the booking. It can be decked out as a games room, with table football and table tennis, or to provide a conference facility, or even a teen den.

Bedroom 1: (Garden room). This bedroom has an enormous, carved, wooden bed, a crystal chandalier, and garden views. Like all the bedrooms it also has an ipod dock and a hairdryer. The en suite bathroom is supplied with a power shower, and complimentary REN products.

First floor
Bedroom 2: (Ballroom). This suite is dressed in deep shades of blue with irridecent velvet curtains and designer chairs, a deep roll top bath, and a four poster bed.

Bedroom 3: (Boudoir). This features a beautiful Bohemian lead crystal chandelier with walk in shower.

Bedroom 4: (Aquitaine). This is dominated by a stunning Venetian glass mirror. The dark and subtely lit bathroom provides the option of a bath or shower before dinner.

Bedroom 5: (Dauphin) Enormous four poster, roll top bath, complimentary REN products, iPod dock, and hairdryer.

Bedroom 6: (Bourgie) Enormous four poster, designer lighting, and a stunning 17th century fireplace, along with the iPod dock and haidryer. The bathroom features a walk-in power shower and complimentary REN products.

Bedroom 7: (Maroc) A four poster bed sits quite alone, on a medieval terracotta floor, in a space you can virtually run about in. The decadence of an oversized chandelier in the bathroom is matched by the fittings. Two sinks, a roll top bath with views through the walnut tree, and and a walk in shower with monsoon effect plumbing complete the picture. A small child's room leads just off Maroc making this a perfect family suite for couples with perhaps a small baby or a couple of young children.

Bedroom 8: (The Tower Suite). This features the best fifteenth century fireplace in the house and a further fireplace within the en-suite bathroom which is fairytale heaven. A roll top bath and antique mirror compliment ancient terracota tiles, all of which leads to the Tower Shower! A stand alone wet room in the middle of the 12th Century tower.

Dormitory: Two bunk-beds, 2 singles. En-suite bath and shower. There are also 2 additional single bedrooms suitable for children or teenagers.

Facilities include: Broadband WiFi throughout the house, a professional cinema, a satellite TV, an extensive DVD library, a plasma screen with satellite link in the Chapel bar, table tennis, a boules terrace, and croquet.

Further details outdoors:
The Chateau Rideaud sits within ten acres of landscaped gardens and grounds which provide a charming circular walk worth of 'open garden' status. Take breakfast on the East terrace with views across the vines and the wild flower meadow to the neighbouring chateau. Lunch on the south terrace and take the last rays of evening sunshine on the west terrace where, in the summer months, you can harvest the potted tomatoes and chillis which grow in the herb garden. The swimming pool was decked in 2005 and has a sharp contemporary edge. Numerous inflatables are available should they take your fancy.
