The old farmworkers cottage has been tastefully renovated to provide an open plan kitchen/lounge and dining area on the ground floor. The original stone fireplace features a wood-burning stove. Cosy sofas provide relaxed seating in the lounge, maybe to watch a DVD or listen to some music. A dining table and chairs fit nicely by the window for you to enjoy the beautiful sunsets. Alternatively, you can dine al fresco in the garden at the side of the cottage and sample the excellent local food and wine.
The main attraction is the peace and tranquility of the surroundings which enable you to de-stress, relax and re-charge your batteries. SPECIAL DEAL IF YOU BOOK BOTH OUR GITES AT THE SAME TIME - SEE OUR WEBSITE FOR DETAILS.

The Poitou-Charentes region
Due to the microclimate in this region, we are blessed with an exceptional number of sunshine hours per year, making it the second sunniest region in France. Spring comes early, Summer temperatures can reach in excess of 30 degrees and Autumn is still warm enough for a quieter main holiday. This is the perfect choice for a holiday - something for everyone! The white sand and romantic islands of the Atlantic Coast are about an hours' drive; the spectacular "Green Venice" (Marais Poitevin) is only 50 minutes away as is the Futuroscope theme park (near Poitiers) in the other direction. Cognac is only a short drive and has several distilleries offering guided tours. In short, we have wildlife parks, chateaux, hilltop fortress towns and roman history abound. This area is also ideal for bird-watchers since there are many rare species of birds of prey to be found here.
You cannot afford to miss the market in Lezay every Tuesday morning, selling everything from local fresh produce to shoes to livestock. The nearest supermarket & petrol station are also located in Lezay, as well as a post office, banks, chemists, doctors, etc. In the town there is also a beautiful park with tennis courts and an open-air swimming pool (open July & August only). Canoeing & swimming available at the lake in Lambon. Melle is famous for its' silver mines and is a very pretty town with several nice places to eat. For history lovers, we have the archaelogical dig and museum at Rom (4kms) as well as the Commonwealth War Graves. In the opposite direction are Chaunay, Couhe, Vivonne and Poitiers all offering shops, markets, restaurants and interesting architecture.

"Everything you could want from a relaxed and quiet getaway"
A gorgeous cottage in a lovely quiet area, the accomodation was just amazing, facilities all brilliant, Steve and Tracey were wonderful owners who could not be more helpful or approachable, the whole area was just what we wanted for a quiet and romantic getaway in the country side with lovely local french markets in local villages in the week.

"Rural France- Farmland, sunflowers, sunshine and 70 minutes to coast"
Wonderful Hideaway Cottage. We've been at most times of the year and it is wonderful in all seasons. Everything you need downstairs, including woodburner for cool Autumn and Winter visits. Upstairs bedroom, ensuite shower and just one beam to duck below. This is a French institution. Comfortable and cosy. Barbecues throughout summer, after a dip in the pool; log fires, candlelight and casseroles in winter, all helped along with the essential red wine. Tracey and Steve are wonderful hosts and will help in any way possible, but not intrusive. We've become very good friends. Evenings in summer are spent outside: take part in the family friendly quiz, boules tournament or just chillin'. Winter evenings by the log fire where me and my wife learned to talk to each other again. Logs, wine, good company and enjoying life at a slower pace. I'm sure the sun stops shining, but that's probably only at night. The area is very rural and tranquil, the nights are dark, and there are more stars out there than you could ever imagine. Sunflowers, corn, local farmers on the chasse, Tuesday morning market in Lezay. Styles you haven't seen since your granny wore them, but the atmosphere is so French. Local attractions for the children at Valley des Singes (monkey valley), Futuroscope outside Poitiers, Poitiers itself, Parthenay, Confolens, the Marais Poitevin where you can rent a boat and paddle along the wooded canals, La Rochelle, and not least the Ile de Re. The area , the way of life, the relaxation, the sunshine. This is France. Tracey and Steve and their wonderful Hideaway Cottage are in the middle of all this. All these places to visit in no more than 75 minutes. It may not be perfect, but for a week or two it's pretty close.

"Hideaway Cottage sums it up beautifully, a gem of a place to stay."
Steve and Tracey have continued to sensitively improve the cottage and the surrounding area, it's a lovely place to stay and I look forward to further visits. They are very helpful and welcoming hosts and are very knowledgable about the local area and beyond.

"One of our most relaxing and enjoyable holidays ever"
Being met by Steve & Tracey at Hideaway was like being met by long lost friends, it was like we had known them for years. Nothing was too much trouble for the whole of our stay. When we had tired of sitting reading and listening to all the wonderful sounds,Tracey had some great ideas of where to visit and we found some places we will always remember and visit again when we return to Grande Vigne this year. We are hoping to get over in the summer this time, as the onground pool I'm sure will be very handy for cooling off. The cottage is really lovely, spotless and very welcoming, as it was October and getting chilly in the evening steve had lit a fire for us which was brilliant. There was wood avaliable for us to have a fire each evening. Rosie the dog was also very friendly and we quite often took her out for a walk in the early evening. The fresh bread bought round by a local baker is wonderful, & not far away is Lezay where on Tuesday mornings there is a large market held with fresh fruit .veg, meats , fish & more, also on Friday a market is held at Melle a nice town about 15mins or so away, if you like walking there is a wonderful walk around the outer edge of Melle amongst rare trees & plants also three beautiful churches to visit. As you can tell our holiday was one of our best and we will be returning to Hideaway again & possibly again.
