Northern England region

Goose bank is situated in a National Park, an area of special beauty, in the heart of t the Yorkshire Dales. Goose bank is in the village where James Herriot had his honeymoon and is in the centre of Herriot countryside. The Yorkshire Dales are famous for their spectacular scenery, wild moorland and crags, lush wooded valleys, waterfalls and ancient meadows filled with wild flowers. Ideal for walking and discovering secret places.

Coverdale makes a good base for exploring in every direction. Harrogate and York to the South. Whitby and the coast and the Yorkshire moors to the East. The Lake District and Cumbria to the west. Durjham and Newcaslewith the Metro shopping Centre and The Sage concert centre to the North. Any of these can be visited easily on a days outing. Our guests return many times to visit places they hadn't had time for before!

The Forbidden Corner is only 3 or4 miles away, a great attraction with children. Nearby Jervaulx Abbey is privately owned, covered with wild flowers, brilliant for hide and seek and picnics, with home made the Brymore Ice-cream Parlour just up the road for afterwards!

You can see the famous Gromit Wensleydale cheese being made at Gayle near Hawes, where there is also a restored mill with an interesting history.

There are weekly markets and farmer's markets.

Middleham Casle is 5 miles away, famous home of the Kingmaker and Richard III for a while. Richmond Castle, Helmsley Casle and Barnard Castle are not far away. Rievaulx and Fountains Monasteries make a an interesting day out too.

The James Herriot Museum at Thirsk is of interest to all ages and York has many museums and attractions of its own
