Throughout the year, our beautiful home in Askrigg, North Yorkshire offers you the opportunity to spend time at the heart of one of England's most magnificent landscapes. Whether your interests lie in active holidays - demanding high-level hill walks, off-road cycling, or quieter riverside strolls – or whether you're keen to explore the many places of historical interest, the dales of North Yorkshire are unparalleled. Within striking distance, the cities of York and Ripon, and the towns of Richmond, Skipton and Harrogate offer further alternatives.

Askrigg itself dates back over many centuries and today is a vibrant community with much going on in and around the village. The Old Mill cottage is tucked away in a quiet lane just off the main street, and is a stone's throw from local amenities, including a country store, three public houses (all serving food) and the Village Kitchen, which provides home cooked takeaway meals and packed lunches, cakes, pies and also a tea-room.

Old Mill Two provides deceptively spacious accommodation with many modern conveniences. It does however maintain many traditional features and is ideally located in a quiet yet accessible location in this very popular Dales town.

Northern England region

The Yorkshire Dales National Park is a special place: it has outstanding scenery, a range of wildlife habitats and a rich cultural heritage. It is a fantastic outdoor arena for recreation and peaceful relaxation and a haven for wildlife.

The National Park was established in 1954, and covers an area of 1,762 square kilometres (680 square miles) in the north of England, straddling the central Pennines in the counties of North Yorkshire and Cumbria. It is 50 miles (80.5 kilometres) north east of Manchester; Leeds and Bradford lie to the south, while Kendal is to the west and Darlington to the east.

Whether your interests lie in active holidays - demanding high-level hill walks, off-road cycling, or quieter riverside strolls – or whether you're keen to explore the many places of historical interest, the dales of North Yorkshire are unparalleled. Within striking distance, the cities of York and Ripon, and the towns of Richmond, Harrogate and Skipton offer further alternatives.

Leyburn

Throughout the year, our beautiful home in Askrigg, North Yorkshire offers you the opportunity to spend time at the heart of one of England's most magnificent landscapes.

The cottage is located in the heart of upper Wensleydale in the picturesque village of Askrigg. In the 1970s this was the location for the village of Darrowby, which was the backdrop for the popular series, 'All Creatures Great and Small'. The Old Mill cottages are tucked away in a quiet lane just off the main street, and are a stone's throw from local amenities, including a general store, three public houses (all offering food) and the Village Kitchen, which provides home cooked takeaway meals, packed lunches, freshly baked bread, cakes, pies and much more.

Footpaths and rural walks are easily accessible, and some can be reached without walking on roads. On the outskirts of Askrigg is a small leisure centre with a gym and outdoor sports facilities. The nearby towns of Hawes and Leyburn provide weekly markets, and shopping in small, independent supermarkets and specialist retailers.
