Northern England region

The Yorkshire Dales is home to over 1,500 square kilometres of the renowned Yorkshire Dales National Park, which is characterised by its unspoilt Dales villages, patchwork of dry stone walls and stunning fells and dales countryside. Visitors are able to travel for miles along quiet country roads, surrounded by magnificent views in every direction; an area dotted with ancient farming communities and rural villages which is typical of this region. This area is perfect for a truly relaxing holiday away from all the stresses and strains of day to day life, where you rediscover a gentler pace of life. It's also great for enjoying a whole host of outdoor pursuits including some of the very best walks in the UK.

Leyburn

The quaint village of Thornton Rust is conveniently located in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National park between Leyburn and Hawes. The beautiful market town of Hawes is just a ten minute drive and offers a wide range of amenities. There are tearooms, gift shops, interior shops, boutiques and convenience stores, not forgetting the busy market that lines the streets on a Tuesday. Hawes is the home of Wensleydale Cheese, and provided the inspiration for the Wallace and Gromit films. The Creamery is well worth a visit, and offers visitors the chance to sample some of their specialities. The area is steeped in history, with the well preserved castles of Castle Bolton and Middleham just a short drive. The Wensleydale countryside is perfect for walkers and cyclists, or simply sitting back and enjoying the spectacular views. Pub serving excellent food just two miles away in the village of Aysgarth.
