House | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 6
Lothlorien is a charming three storey pre 17th Century stone cottage boasting plenty of character features and located within the historic horse racing town of Middleham. From the lounge and all 3 bedrooms the view reaches across the countryside to the river Ure. Recently renovated with a beautiful country kitchen on the ground floor complete with modern aga, oak work surfaces and exposed beams. The kitchen adjoins the dining room which has a cosy ambience with a large antique table, exposed beams and tapestries. The first floor lounge has a wood-burning stove and exposed beams and a door to the secluded sun-trap west facing patio garden. The garden wraps around the side of the house with a delightful seating area with views over the dale. The first floor double bedroom has an en-suite shower room and further views. To the second floor are two further bedrooms both with inspiring views; the largest bedroom can either be a king-size or a twin with the other being a double. The family bathroom is also located on the second floor with a three piece suite complete with shower over the bath.
The amenities of Middleham are on the doorstep of the property; including several pubs and eateries as well as a well-stocked general store. The property is ideally situated for a walk around the town passing the racing stables, visiting the castle ruins or walks by the river Ure or Cover.
Middleham is predominantly a Georgian market town with settlements going back to the Romans. Today it is the premier northern centre for the training of race horses, which is an interesting sight as they make their way through the town to the gallops every morning. The remains of the castle, whose most well known inhabitant was Richard III, are a few minutes walk away from the property. A few miles down the road are Bolton Castle and the atmospheric ruins of Jervaulx Abbey. The bustling market town of Leyburn and the popular Forbidden Corner, which has follies and labyrinths to explore, are just a short drive away. The property is also ideally situated for exploring the Yorkshire Dales National Park or the North York Moors and for travelling to Durham, Newcastle, Harrogate, Leeds and York or the Yorkshire Coast.
This is a beautiful cottage for a relaxed romantic getaway or an active family break at any time of year.
