Northern England region
The Yorkshire Dales is home to over 1,500 square kilometres of the renowned Yorkshire Dales National Park, which is characterised by its unspoilt Dales villages, patchwork of dry stone walls and stunning fells and dales countryside. Visitors are able to travel for miles along quiet country roads, surrounded by magnificent views in every direction; an area dotted with ancient farming communities and rural villages which is typical of this region. This area is perfect for a truly relaxing holiday away from all the stresses and strains of day to day life, where you rediscover a gentler pace of life. It's also great for enjoying a whole host of outdoor pursuits including some of the very best walks in the UK.
The picturesque village of Askrigg, sits within the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and is ideally located in the heart of the rolling Wensleydale countryside between the popular dales market towns of Leyburn and Hawes. The village itself is well served with its own village store, quaint tearooms and thriving pub which are all within easy walking distance from Grans Cottage. The thriving market town of Hawes is just a short drive away, and offers visitors the chance to experience a true ‘taste of Yorkshire life' with its friendly welcome and abundance of shops stocking local produce. On a Tuesday, a market lines the streets, and the livestock auction springs to life as farmers from miles around travel to Hawes to trade their livestock. Wensleydale is a haven for walking and cycling, and there are many historic and natural tourist attractions within the immediate area.
