The Swiss Alps / Valais/Swiss Alps region

The Valais region of Switzerland is truly the heart of the Alps - home to the country's highest peaks, extreme mountain terrain and renowned ski resorts such as Zermatt and Verbier. But a visit to the region does not have to mean just skiing, as even in Winter there is plenty to explore for the non-skier.

Hiking, adventures, culture and gastronomy can all be enjoyed in stunning surroundings. 8000km of hiking trails meander across mountains and through forests under a sun which seems to shine forever. The Valais region enjoys 320 days sunshine on average per year and as a result miles and miles of vineyards can be found clinging to the mountain slopes in the Summer. The neighbouring village of Varen has earned itself a reputation as a leader in the production of organic wine.

The Valais region also owns a region which UNESCO has designated as the first alpine heritage area in the world thanks to the Aletsch Glacier, the longest in Europe.

Situated in the heart of the Valais region is the mountain resort of Leukerbad, the largest thermal resort in the Alps.

Leukerbad area

Leukerbad is situated in the heart of the Alps at a height of 1400m. It is the largest thermal resort in the Alps. Around four million litres of thermal spring water gush out of the rock every day. It flows into whirlpool baths and steam baths, supplies massage showers and saunas, feeds 22 swimming pools and contributes to 250 different wellness treatments. Great for a wellness break or after a long day on the slopes or to relax after a long hike.

A variety of ski lifts take you to a height of 2800m up on The Torrent where there 80km of well-prepared pistes. There are also idylIic cross-country ski trails on the Gemmi pass and 40km of winter walking paths.

Leukerbad boasts over 200km of hiking trails in the Summer, a via-ferrata route that climbs to the Daubenhorn, a magnificent panorama from the Torrent region and a sports centre where guests can enjoy tennis, squash, badminton, table tennis, minigolf. A round of golf can be organised in the valley at Leuk or in the neighbouring resort of Crans-Montana.

Leukerbad is also central to the cities of Geneva, Bern and Basel which can all be reached easily in a day thanks to the excellent rail and road links.

Guestbook for Les Naturelles

● "Within hours of arrival we were relaxing in a thermal pool outside in the snow - simply magical! The apartment was lovely, clean and spacious. Reception were very helpful, for a small fee we hired the fondue set - all very Swiss. Booking ski lessons was easy and as complete novices, the slope at the Sportarena was perfect and the people very friendly. Enjoyed some beautiful winter walks, with stops for coffee & cake of course ! Will definitely come back" - Kev & Alison, Merseyside, DEC 2008

● "Late Summer was a great surprise, gorgeous weather and the walking was fantastic, either high up enjoying the tranquility of the mountains, or down in the valley through the vineyards. Les Naturelles is a perfect base - great to come back and admire the view from the balcony over a glass or two of the delicious local wine" - Mike & Sarah, Lancashire, SEPT 2008

● "An ideal place for a family holiday. The apartment was easy to get to and had everything we needed. There is so much to keep everyone happy. The children loved the Burgerbad water park. Travelling around is easy in Switzerland too, the kids even go free with a family railcard. Our best holiday yet !" - J. & G. Pearce & family, Chester, JULY 2009

● "We had a lovely holiday, your apartment was ideal, it had everything we needed and its position suited us very well, quiet but easy walking distance from the centre of the village along the lovely promenade. Beat at reception was also very helpful and as we say here at home "good crack". We will definitely holiday in Switzerland again and if we go back to Leukerbad (which was great) we would not hesitate to rent your apartment again." Claire and David, N. Ireland, AUG 2009
