The Basse-Normandie region
The Manche region is often overlooked as people rush down the peninsula on the way south - we have all done it- but now we know better! We think this area is wonderful; the vast west coast beaches are only ten minutes away, the forests and by-ways are perfect for walking and biking. With small towns and seaside villages it is the perfect place to unwind and recharge your batteries. This part of Normandy is a gentle and peaceful region so it is perfect to explore at your leisure.
Mont-St-Michel, the D-Day landing beaches and the Bayuex tapestry are all within an easy drive.
Closer to home there is the 12th century abbey at Lessay which has a long and very interesting history.
Take a simple stroll down the lane into the forest or a more energetic ride to the beach on the tandem.
Lessay is only 3 minutes away by car and has everything you might need - a good choice of shops and a supermarket. The abbey is famous throughout France and well worth a visit.
In early September the fair of St Croix is held over three days; started by the monks over a thousand years ago, you can buy anything you want there from a tea towel to a cow!
The stunning (and empty) west coast beaches are less then ten minutes away by car.

"A Truly Memorable holiday"
We could never quite believe the generous attention to detail that is provided by `Just Couples'. From the welcome basket, the furnishings, the friendly advice and Rachel's superb cooking everything was of an exceptionally high quality. The gite, while small, provides a rare level of comfort and we definitely felt pampered by Rachel's hospitality.
This corner of Normandy is full of interest. The quiet countryside, small fishing villages, wonderful markets, historic buildings, the D-Day beaches and beautiful coastline were a revelation to us.
`Just Couples' is a real gem which gave us a truly memorable holiday.
We are so pleased to hear that you both enjoyed your stay at Just Couples. We try very hard to provide a relaxing home from home environment for our guests. We hope to see you here again in the future.

"Idyllic, absolutely perfect and missing it already !"
The location of Just Couples offers you the opportunity to do as little or as much as you wish. it is perfect for just relaxing in comfortable, well equipped, spotlessly clean and homely accommodation - all tastefully put together by your host Rachel. There is so much choice of things to do from easy woodland walks down quiet country lanes where the only noise is the birds. visiting nearby beautiful beaches, chateaux, D-day historical sites and lovely market towns offering excellent choices of fruits, vegetables, cheeses, Normandy Ciders and of course Calvados to name just a few. however, if you don't feel like cooking then we can thoroughly recommend Rachel's cooking - it really is a treat not to be missed and is presented so professionally. on top of all this Rachel and Ray are lovely hosts, they are two of the most friendliest , down-to-earth people you could wish to meet who take great pleasure in welcoming you to their home. They know so much about the area and are always willing and glad to offer you the benefit of their knowledge and experience of this part of Normandy. You arrive as strangers and leave as friends!
we cannot wait to return.
It was a real pleasure to welcome you both to Just Couples. It means so much to Ray and I that you enjoyed your stay and all the area has to offer.Hopefully your next visit will be during warmer days....a glass of wine in the garden with the dogs maybe!

"Just Couples never disappoints"
This was our second stay at Just Couples and I hope it won't be our last. If you are looking for a very comfortable and cosy getaway you must try Just Couples. The owners Rachel and Ray are on hand if you need them but are certainly unobtrusive. They provided us with a fabulous welcome basket and fresh eggs from their lovely chickens. The gite has all the comforts you need and is within short drives of beaches and historic sites. The meals Rachel cooked for us were restaurant quality and not to be missed.
It was so good to see you both here again for your winter break.....no snow this time either! Thank you for your kind words regarding our food. Ray and I look forward to your next trip to Just Couples.

"A relaxing off season break"
My husband and I had to cancel our stay at Just Couples in September for personal reasons. We would have been unable to claim on our insurance and so expected to lose our holiday, but Rachel very kindly allowed us to postpone the holiday. As a result we ended up booking our much needed break for a week from 20th November, not a time we would have chosen. How wrong were we! We had a lovely break, the weather was changeable but didn't stop us from going out every day and doing some sightseeing. There were still quite a few tourists but it was easy to get around. It was an hour to the Normandy beaches which we visited on two days and then there were lots of local markets and villages to wander around. We even managed a walk on the beach!
Ask Rachel how to get to the sea food restaurant near Coutainville! Not all restaurants were open but we found some really good ones for lunch and ended up by accident in the local one at Lessay for the Beaujolais Nouveau festival. At Bayeux there is a little Creperie on the bridge near the entrance. The best Crepes I have eaten!
We spent most evenings in the Gite, watching DVDs and eating cheese, pate and bread with the odd glass of wine! Rachel cooked for us one night and the food lived up to the reviews. The gite was lovely and cosy. So warm that we didn't need to use the log fire. It is well equipped and very clean. Bed was wonderfully comfortable. The spiral staircase was a bit of a challenge as it was quite narrow and we are both quite wide but once you had been up and down a couple of times a suitable means of ascent and descent was perfected! My husband even managed to bring my obligatory cup of coffee in the morning!
Thanks Rachel for providing a lovely relaxing retreat. We never even got round to walking up the lane or meeting the donkeys. The week just went too quickly! If you want a week away from it all, then Just Couples is the place to be.
We were very happy to be able to offer you a different week and were so pleased you had a relaxing and much needed break.
Hope to see you here again some time.

"A perfect and idyllic honeymoon destination where the couple can relax after the busyness of the wedding."
We have just arrived home from what has got to have been the most relaxing 10 days of our lives!
Rachel & Ray are the perfect hosts, who give valuable advice whilst providing the space needed for a couple to relax.
Booking the honeymoon was made very easy through Rachel's friendly communication via email. She also aimed to provide a tailored honeymoon package that met a fiancé's requirements for his future wife! Rachel went above and beyond what was requested, aiding the organisation of the secret honeymoon. She had some wonderful ideas of how to make this holiday special.
We ate in the gite regularly, however we never needed to lift a finger. Rachel provides wonderful evening meals if requested, which they should be as she is a fantastic cook! We also enjoyed being shown the donkeys near the property by Ray, who makes a lovely waiter during the dinner service.
The gite itself is more than perfect. It has been completely geared towards couples in its design, including a two-person coffee machine and tandem, which is great for a laugh. The decor is warm and rustic whilst being of the highest quality. The bed, importantly, is very comfortable and overall the gite was immaculately clean.
The gite is well located with easy access to local villages, restaurants, supermarkets and (very empty) beaches. It is also well located for historic and cultural activity, although we did not make use of this due to the need for sleep and rest!
The best bits:
- the welcome banner that Rachel had requested to be made especially for us
- Rachel's cooking
- the gite and its patio
- Ray and Rachel as our hosts
The worst bit:
We would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this property to friends or family and would especially recommend it as a honeymoon destination for those who wish to relax after the busyness of the wedding.
What can we say except that it was a real pleasure to welcome you to Just Couples and to help you (Josh) to spring your honeymoon suprise on your new bride!
We both wish you a long and happy life together.

"Great Holiday, Wonderful Relaxation, Totally Pampered"
I am sure you have looked at web sites and thought that looks good only to be confronted with something that isn't quite what you expected. This could not be further from the truth at "Just Couples".
From before we arrived in France Rachel steered us gently through everything we needed, including ordering a first night supper after the long days travelling - thoroughly to be recommended, to organising a birthday surprise for Wendy. We will return again and if not next year it is only because we are discovering more of France.
We were welcomed when we arrived and shown around, then left to our own devices - As far as we could see there is nothing that has not been thought of. The evening supper was brought into the gite and served elegantly! You must eat here during your stay! Worth it for the cooking and being able to drink without taking turns.
The accommodation is charming, well set out and easy to relax in. the private courtyard with barbecue is a sun trap, you can spend the whole time here and relax. if you can't stay away from wi-fi and the outside world there is excellent quality connection and TV with Freeview.
The area has lots to do in all weathers, the local beaches are long, sandy and under populated , there are castles, tapestries, the Normandy landings, super markets, fromagerie to name but a few.
We found a recently renovated Restaurant in Periers, La Brasserie who has a chef that is enthusiastic about his food and knows hoe to treat it with love and respect - go there if you can.
For those of us who have been extracted from children "Just Couples" works, it is as it says on the tin and Rachel and Ray have provided a haven to enjoy.
Thank you Rachel for a wonderful stay, we don't easily relax and I rarely sleep in a bed other than my own - we did both!
Wow! Thank you so much for your many kind words. Ray and I try very hard to provide all that guests could want in holiday accommodation, so it's good to know you had such a relaxing time...and slept well too!
We enjoyed spending some time chatting together and hope to see you here again in the future.

"Very relaxing gite, and ideal location for lots of places of interest/"
This lovely gite has everything you could ask for. Its cosy, private and the patio garden is a plus for alfresco dining . Lovely welcome basket on arrival and excellent cooked meal on our first evening was very much appreciated after a long journey. Lovely beaches that stretched for miles and a quiet walk in the woods down to the river, a bit of fishing in the lake, all make a great get away. This location really is a lovely part of France and easily accessible for lots of places of interest.
Ray and I really enjoyed meeting you both and hope to see you here again sometime in the future.

"Best gifts come in small packages"
Just a short impromptu Winter break this time but we left wanting more. Our first impresssion when we pulled up to the gite was not disappointing. Outside the front of the house were pots of Spring flowers inside was warm & welcoming with a more than generous basket of goodies and a vase of fresh Tulips. Rachel greeted us showed us around and made sure we were comfortable. We had taken advantage of the arrival meals and urge others to do likewise. The food was delivered to us by Ray & Rachel, they even set our table for us, as others have said the food was restaurant quality.
We hope to return and take greater advantage of the forest walks and beaches that are on the doorstep.
Ray and I are so glad you had such a pleasent short break. Thank you for your very kind comments regarding Just Couples. We hope you get the chance to come back in the future.

"The Perfect Place"
Just Couples lived up to all the hopes and expectations offered by the website - a lovely gite (small but perfectly formed!), within in easy reach of beautiful beaches, set in lovely countryside and with so much history on the doorstep. We had the perfect holiday, a lovely, peaceful and relaxing week in the middle of September. It was made all the more enjoyable with two such charming hosts - Rachel and Ray - and we are looking forward to going back.
We hope we have created a warm and cosy retreat, and it's so nice when our guests relax and get so much from their stay here in Lessay.
Ray and I really look forward to seeing again soon.

To stay in Ray and Rachel's cottage, is to be recommended. Ours was a winter break, and we arrived to a very cosy and warm home, candles alight, beautiful welcome basket,a delicious meal, red roses, and a lovely welcome !
Nothing was too much trouble, even a helpful news sheet with ideas for outings and useful tips for week awaited us ! How great is that ? We loved it all. ( even the bath for two)
We think a winter stay in Normandy can be just what the doctor ordered. It is nice to know that you enjoyed the gite and felt so at home. Thank you for your lovely review.
