This 300 year old Charentaise farmhouse has been renovated to a high standard without losing any of its charm, stone walls, timber beams and cool spacious rooms. It has a large well equipped kitchen, lounge, family room and en suite bedroom on the ground floor. A flight of stairs at either end of the house each leads to two bedrooms and a bathroom. It is perfect for family holidays with plenty of space inside and 2 acres and outbuildings to explore outside.
Enjoy glorious views of the surrounding countryside. The local boulangerie van passes by the house every Tues and Friday morning, so make sure you take advantage of home delivered baguettes and croissants!

The floors downstairs are tiled with a wooden floor in the family room while upstairs have wooden or seagrass flooring. Hot water is from an immersion heater and there are fans for use in hot weather.
There are books and games available for family use. Travel cot available.

Outside there is a large meadow and lawn with a copse of trees in the corner. The driveway and entrance to the house is gravelled. There are two large stone barns on the property. A charcoal BBQ and garden furniture are available to use. There is ample parking for at least 4 cars.
The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Charente region


La Roffie is a tiny hamlet consisting of three farms, of which this house is one. Both other farms are active and the French neighbours raise cattle, hens and grow wheat, maize and grapes. The Charente is fairly rural as well as being one of the sunniest areas in France.
There are Roman remains at Chassenon to visit, the route of Richard the Lionheart passes through nearby villages and is marked. More recently it is significant as a place where the resistance was active during the the war, and there are monuments and tours to celebrate this movement.
The Charente region is well known for its Cognac and the less well known Pineau. Cities / towns to vists include Cognac, Limoges, Angouleme and Brantome.
The Lesignac Durand area
There are restaurants, bars, post offices, bakery and butchers shops in Lesignac-Durand and the nearby villages of Massignac and Suris. The closest larger towns of Chabanais and Roumaziere-Loubert have more shops and supermarkets and regular SNCF rail services with links to all major cities.
Local activities and attractions include high tree climbing in the adventure park (1km), canoeing on the Vienne (4km), swimming / fishing / sailing wind-surfing on 'Les Lacs de Haute Charente' (4km). There are lots of other places to swim including the Nautilus water park in Angouleme and the freshwater pool (with lifeguard) at Roumazieres (7km) is great for children.
There are pretty towns with chateaux to visit at La Rochefoucauld and Rochechouart. Oradour-sur-glane is well worth a visit. This village was destroyed by the Germans during the war and has been left untouched since that time. There are lots of local markets which run weekly and the monthly bigger 'foires' include the ones are Chasseneuil and Peigut. The annual Festival of World Cultures is on in Confolens in August.
There are golf courses at St Junien and La Preze. The entire area is surrounded by hiking and cycle trails.

La Roffie is situated between Suris and Lesignac-Durand on the D52 (off the RN141), equidistant to the towns of Limoges and Angouleme.
Ryanair fly to the nearest airports (Limoges and Angouleme) from Stanstead. Both are about 40min drive.
La Rochelle and Bordeaux airports are about 2 hours away.
Poitiers, Bergerac and Nantes are about 3 hours away.
Its about a 7 hour drive from Cherbourg and about 6 hours from Le Havre
