The Aegean Islands region

With over 300 days of sunshine per year, the North Eastern Aegean enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate; perfect for growing an abundance of fruit and vegetables..... and of course, olives!!
Lesvos in particular remains beautiful and unspoiled. As the the third biggest island in Greece it has been described as 'Greece in miniature'.
The Lesbos / Lesvos Island / Skala Eressos area
Home to Aristotle and Theophrastus the Island of Lesvos was featured on the recent BBC4 documentary, 'Aristotle's Lagoon'. Rich in a huge diversity of flora and fauna the island is also an internationally recognised centre for indigenous and migratory birds.
The Petrified Forest, Natural History Museum and many other areas of geological and archeological interest; including natural thermal spas, are within easy travelling distance of Eressos With stunning landscapes of rolling forests of oak and pine; olive groves and rocky mountainous peaks, it also boasts some of the cleanest beaches in Europe, and is a recent winner of the Eden, sustainable tourism award.
Skala Eressos is the birthplace of the early poet Sappho, and a women's arts festival is held in the village over two weeks each September to celebrate her life and work.
Earlier in the summer, the picturesque village square in Eressos is turned into an open air venue where local school children mark the end of the school year with a cultural festival of traditional Greek music, dance and theatre. The entertainment can be enjoyed among local Greek families, from your table at a favourite cafe or restaurant as you eat and drink under the stars.
Since we live on the island all year round we will be able to offer you up to date information on all current activities and attractions in our welcome pack which includes fresh milk, home baked bread and a selection other local delicacies.
