WHAT YOU WILL SEE

Located on the south side of Swiss Alps, Lake Maggiore benefits a sheltered position against the cold winds of northern Europe. It was inhabited since Romans time and reached its fame in Belle Époque, when it was choosen by wealthy families and international travellers as their favourite destination. In those time many villas were built with a great variety of ecleticism, gardens were designed and planted with rare species, luxury hotels opened. Transports were made with horse carriages, steamboat and railways. Lake Maggiore holds today the same charme with all modern amenities and comforts.

Summers are warm (25 to 30 C°) with a lovely breeze in the afternoon. The clear water welcome sailors, swimmers and canoeist. Hike and strolls, mountain biking, watersports activities, 8 golf courses, riding and sailing schools are among the offers available for tourists. Autumn will come with its superb foliage; in springtime all the area is in full bloom with camelias and azaleas: the best time to visit the baroque gardens of Isola Bella and the botanical collection of Villa Taranto. Beauty treatment and spa and are available in the thermal village of Premia. Winters are bright and sometime snowy, it rarely frozen. Skiing and snowshoeing lovers enjoy the panoramic view of Alps from of Mottarone mountain or the steep downhill slopes of Macugnaga at the feet of Monte Rosa summit. There are plenty of old villages with traditional architecture to discover, museums and cultural institution, village festivals, farm and antique markets and great nightlife will enrich the sojourn.

Solcio is the perfect point of departure to discover the area. Activities within a walking distance from the village include: free beach or lakeside relaxation, olympic size swimming pool and tennis lawn, canoeing and fishing. There are: a kids playground, two bars, three restaurants, a pizzeria, a supermarket, a fisher's shop with a delicious fish and chips saturday treat, a real estate agent, a beauty salon and hairdresser.
