The Pays de la Loire region
Known as the Garden of France this area is glorious.
It is also noteworthy for the quality of its architectural heritage, in its historic towns such as Amboise, Angers, Blois, Chinon, Nantes, Orléans, Saumur, and Tours, but in particular for its world-famous châteaux, such as Amboise, Chambord, Villandry and Chenonceau and more particularly its many cultural monuments, which illustrate to an exceptional degree the ideals of the Renaissance.
On December 2, 2000, UNESCO added the central part of the Loire River valley, between Maine and Sully-sur-Loire, to its list of World Heritage Sites
Warm summers and balmy evenings are an apt description of the weather in the Loire. Mild spring weather brings out the buds on the trees and spring flowering bulbs much earlier than in the UK. Autumn is glorious with evenings often still warm enough to BBQ.
Les Verchers Sur Layon
There are numerous attractions in the area, apart from the many Chateaux, the zoo at Doue la Fontaine, just 4 minutes away, is world famous for its conservation policy.
The world renowned Cadre Noir is based in Samur and apart from its frequent shows, there are weekly demonstrations that are open to the public For the more adventurous Puy du Fou, Futurscope and several adventure parks are all within easy driving distance.
The rose garden in Doue la Fontaine has hundreds of astounding roses on display and makes for a wonderful day out wandering around the rose gardens enjoying the scents and visions of these fabulous roses
Local villages hold events throughout the year and frequent wine festivals and open days at vinter make this an ideal area to visit.
Golf, horse riding, tennis, water sports, go karting, bird watching, cycling and walking are all easily available.

"Lovely setting and great location for Loire Valley tour"
Sue & Jon were lovely hosts and welcomed us to stay in Anjou rather than Lys which was larger than we needed but provided for everything for ou short stay. Saumur is quite close and is a lovely town, the Loire valley is on the doorstep with its wineries, chateaux and haute cuisine. We would definitely recommend this as a place to stay if you want to explore this beautiful area of France. A great sopt for families too with private gardens and the pool.

"A superb base for holidaying in the Loire"
We have stayed in Anjou at Les Fleurs on four occasions and each time have been so impressed by the experience. The property is very pretty and very well equipped. Hosts Jon and Sue go above and beyond with their customer service without being intrusive, fitting out the house with appropriate equipment, toys and games as needed (we travelled with two children aged 5 and 2) and providing a wealth of information on what to do in the region.
The secure property is beautifully situated, surrounded by vineyards with a lovely garden, with kids toys, a great pool and paddling pool, swings etc. The organic fruit which guests are welcome to pick adds another dimension to breakfast! Because there are only three units in Les Fleurs, it never feels crowded. A new wine tasting room (wines are available to buy on site) and superb meals served in your own garden three times a week (optional but a must-do) are also worth experiencing.
The area itself offers far more to do than can be experienced in just one holiday. In addition to the many wonderful chateaux and wineries, there is a superb zoo just 5 minutes away and the historic large town of Saumur 20 minutes away which has so much to offer, including the biggest tank museum in the world!
All in all Anjou comes very highly recommended as an outstanding base for a holiday in the spectacular Loire Valley

"The perfect base for exploring the beautiful Loire Valley"
Les Fleurs really is a find, a very pretty property, excellently maintained in a beautiful rural setting, yet so well located to enjoy all that the region has to offer and only a short distance from wonderful historic towns and villages. The gites are very well equipped and real care was taken by the owners Jon and Sue Fletcher to cater for our specific needs. We travelled with small children, so were delighted with the toys, high chair, baby monitor etc., as well as the outdoor play area and pool. There is so much to do in the area that will have you returning again and again (and not just for the great wine!). We have just got back from our third holiday in Les Fleurs and would not think of staying anywhere else. All in all, the perfect base for exploring all that the Loire Valley has to offer.

Sue and Jon's gites lie on the appropriately named Route of the Roses. Roses too provide a scented, multi-coloured backdrop to the gite gardens whilst Jon's locally sourced rose sparkled through the rosy glow of peaceful evenings in the garden. We were there in late Spring with the sunshine, the flowers and the strawberries by the pool. There were lovely ripe cherries down the lane too.
Nearby is the really interesting Bioparc, the Zoo de Doue which is filled with seemingly happy animals who looked in superb condition. Not much further away are all the well known attractions of the Chateaux towns and the vineyards. All around it seems, are little surprises you find in France like the the soap makers with the woodpeckers at St Martin des Candres .
After a day out it was always good to return to the gite. Sue and Jon, without ever being intrusive, seemed to anticipate what you might need. Their attention to detail really characterises their approach .
What we really appreciated though was Sue's cooking and trying some of Jon's wines to go with it. What a combination of pleasures! It's something we often look back on and something we look forward to doing again.
We were looked after by two attentive and nice people. It makes all the difference and it leaves you with a comfortable, well satisfied feeling.
