About the home
Situated in a lovely, peaceful and unspoilt village, a real farming community, this cosy gite is newly renovated and decorated in pine throughout. Ideal for skiing and a beautiful area too for spring and summer holidays. The nearest ski lifts go up from the centre of pretty St Martin de Belleville, 4km away, with plenty of free parking close to the gondola which rarely suffers queues. Les Menuires only 6km on from St Martin de Belleville and Val Thorens (the highest skiing in Europe) only about 8km on from Les Menuires.
A world away from the concrete purpose-built ski resorts! This is a characterful property in a piece of real France.
The well-equipped property comprises 2 separate properties with own entrances. The following describes the upstairs (and larger) part: (PLEASE NOTE: THE PRICES QUOTED AND AVAILABILITY SHOWN ARE FOR THIS UPSTAIRS APARTMENT ONLY, NOT BOTH PARTS TOGETHER). The upstairs apartment can sleep a maximum of 12 people, with five bedrooms and a sofa bed in the sitting area also available. There are 3 shower rooms with wash hand basins etc and 3 separate toilets.
Relax in the evening in front of the wood burning stove in the lounge area. Bring a laptop and check the snow reports each morning! Book your ski passes online!
Downstairs is our separate and equally well-equipped gite which can sleep 8 maximum (two bedrooms, an alcove with bunks and a sofa bed): the two properties rented together can accommodate 20 people in all!

Further details
Prices include heating (but not logs, should you wish to use woodburners) and all tourist taxes. A deposit of 20% on reservation secures. A reduction of 10% for two successive weeks or booking both properties together (out of high season) is offered. Prices quoted in euros.

The Rhone / French Alps / Savoie region
In the Vanoise national park in Savoie, St Martin de Belleville is 1450 metres above sea level. Access the Trois Vallees from the most scenic and unspoilt of the three valleys, the Belleville valley! St Martin was recently described in the Daily Mail as "a hidden gem". A world away in character from the busy-ness of Meribel but in fact just over the mountain!
The Les Trois Vallees / St Martin de Belleville area
For the skiers, a fast 8 man gondola followed by a 4 man chair whisk you up to the top overlooking Meribel. For beginners the lift in St Martin centre by the nursery slope is free! There are lovely cruisy runs down to St Martin for a lunchtime pitstop or at the end of the day. For the more adventurous there are fabulous off piste opportunities in the valley and the area.
Ski school and children's'nursery available in the village. Husky dog rides in the village. Cross country trails up the valley from St Martin. Ski bus (free) collects from Villarenger first thing in the morning and can return you in the afternoon (in peak season). All amenities (including supermarket, ATM etc) in St Martin.
In spring and summer lovely walks from the front door and elsewhere in the Belleville valley and in the wider area. Popular with cyclists (bikes can be hired locally). Lifts open to take walkers and bicycles up to the top of the mountains. Outdoor and indoor swimming pools at nearby Les Menuires. Climbing, walks organised by tourist office, white water rafting and village fetes plus lots of other outdoor activities possible.
There are some fabulous restaurants in the valley that we can recommend.
Spring and summer offer the chance to walk in the mountains, fish, swim (indoor and outdoor pools in Les Menuires), tennis, climbing, canyoning, hang-gliding, mountain biking, white water rafting (Brides les Bains to Moutiers), adventure playgrounds, as well as village festivals, music concerts put on in the church in St Martin and many, many other activities.

We stayed at Chalet Marmotton in August 2007 and it truly was a beautiful location. Just two minutes walk and you can enjoy the mountains with various walks. The villagers are very welcoming and there is so much to do in the vicinity. We went white water rafting and shopping and one of the days we drove through the mountains to Italy. We missed our holiday and just being there so much when we came home. We would absolutely recommend it for anyone.
