About this location

The Rhône-Alpes region

The Haute Savoie region borders Switzerland and Italy with Geneva, the closest major city, an hours drive from the chalet. Italy is easily accessible through the Mont Blanc Tunnel for trips to the old roman town of Aosta, skiing in Courmayeur or perhaps a day to Milan. Approximately an hour will take you to the pretty French town of Annecy with its old town and beautiful lake. A 10 minute drive takes you to Chamonix, a charming town with a vibrant and cosmopolitian atmosphere which has an abundance of shops, bars and restaurants. A scenic walk of approx 20 mins along quiet paths takes you to Les Houches village which has a good supermarket, library, restaurants and bars.

Les Houches

The Chamonix Valley, lying at the foot of europe's highest mountain, Mont Blanc, has a number of very attractive traditional towns and villages. Les Houches, only 10 minutes drive from Chamonix, is a traditional Haute Savoie village just a few minutes off the main motorway from Geneva. It offers a wide range of activities for all the family including the Parc de Merlet, swinging through the trees at L'Arbre Adventure, Paradis des Enfants at Les Praz, St Bernard dogs and many more. The local shops provide a range of regional products and sports equipment. Chamonix is the main town in the valley and has a vibrant and lively centre with bars, restaurants and shops. The spectacular mountain range surrounding the towns charming narrow streets and traditional alpine architecture give it a unique and distinctive quality. For breathtaking views the Montenvers train to the Mer de Glace or a trip on the Aiguille du Midi cable car are highly recommended.

Summer offers a wide variety of activities for all age groups. As well as walking, hiking and mountain biking through spectacular mountain scenery the lake at Passy offers swimming and watersports and there is horse riding within walking distance of the chalet. Tennis and golf, on one of the worlds best courses (open until the first snow), are also close at hand.

A Mecca for sports enthusiasts of all ages, the first Winter Olympic Games were held in Chamonix in 1924. Skiing and mountaineering have been the main economy of Chamonix for many years and the Vallée Blanche gives a memorable excursion through glaciers and magnificent scenery (guide needed). The Kandahar World Cup ski race is held annually on the beautiful Piste Verte in Les Houches.

For more leisurely outings there are museums, shopping, spas and restaurants.

"Excellent Chalet in a beautiful area."

Well equiped and comfortable chalet in a great location for exploring the Chamonix Valley. 2 minutes drive to the lifts at Les Houches and 10 minutes in to Chamonix itself.
A very warm and cosy place to stay especially when the log fire is roaring after a hard day on the slopes.
With the choice of several ski areas within 20 minutes or even a trip through the tunnel to Italy, there is plenty for everyone.

Thank you for your review and I'm glad you enjoyed your holiday. I know it is hard to do without internet and I am looking at the possibility.

"A lovely homely chalet"

The location of Chalet Bois de Neige is brilliant- although only really accessible by car. In terms of skiing you are a very short drive from the ski lifts in Les Houches; and there are plenty of ski hire facilities in the village. The other areas in the Chamonix zone are also only a short drive away so there's plenty of options for varied skiing.
The amenities are all close by; with a good Super U in the Les Houches village, and Chamonix provides an abundance of supermarkets, tourist shops and restaurants.
The chalet itself has a lovely homely feel. It was clean and tidy upon our arrival, and there was easily enough room for five adults to comfortably live for a week.
The kitchen was very well equipped with everything you might need for a self-catering holiday. There are also lovely mountain views out of the kitchen, lounge and bedroom windows.
The owners were extremely helpful with local information and we experienced a very efficient booking process.
All in all we had a lovely holiday; with a great chalet to relax in after hard days skiing.

Thank you for your review and I'm glad you enjoyed your stay at our chalet. Guest comments are always helpful. Perhaps you will consider it again.

"Superb chalet! Was well equipped and extremely comfortable."

4 adults and 2 children stayed in April and had a fantastic time - the chalet was very well equipped to deal with our every need - the jacuzzi bath really helped to sorted out our sore skiing muscles at the end of the day! The kitchen had everything we required to cook and the comfortable lounge meant we could watch dvds in the evening. Excellent location - great views of the mountains and only a 20 minute walk/ couple of minutes drive to the supermarket. I would definitely recommend this chalet to anyone wanting to explore the chamonix region!

Thank you for your review - our first! Feedback is always useful. Delighted to hear that you enjoyed the chalet.
