Home description
Good sized apartment (36 sq metres) in a small chalet. Two bedrooms (both 5 sq m), one with twin/double bed, the other with bunk beds. Well equipped bathroom with shower, hip bath and bidet. Living area (18 sq m) has sofa bed, seating, dining area, kitchen with gas cooker, fridge freezer and food preparation area. In a beautiful location; on a quiet road and within easy reach of facilities. Ski bus stops right outside the door. East facing balcony with fine views over ski area. WINTER Les Perrieres is on the south side of Les Gets. It has its own fast 6-man chair which is a two minute bus ride away from the door of the apartment. Buses are every half hour - on the hour and half past. You can walk - it takes about ten minutes. We usually leave our skis in the car roof box and drive down.
The Perrieres fast 6-man lift takes you straight into the main Les Gets bowl (the Ranfolly area). This has lots of great skiing, on and off-piste and is suitable for all level of skier apart from complete beginners. (If you are a complete beginner, you need to be in the town centre where the ski-school meets. Just stay on the bus a further km.)
From the Ranfolly bowl, you have all the shared Les Gets/Morzine area to choose from, enough for most people for a week. For the more adventurous or experienced skier, you can buy a Portes du Soleil lift pass, which gives you endless possibilities across over a dozen linked resorts around the French/Swiss border.
Les Gets/Morzine pass is 149 euros per adult, 112 euros for children (under 16) for 6 days (2010 price) Portes du Soleil pass is 205 euros per adult, 137 euros for children, again for 6 days (2009 price)
See www.lesgets.com for more details of the resort and the ski area.
LOCAL SERVICES There is a very handy little supermarket at the bottom of Rue de Magy - sells virtually everything. It is a five minute walk. Nice restaurants are located here as well, in two small hotels. The town centre is about five minutes on the bus, with access to further ski lifts and ski school, again all on the ski bus route.
Apartment in winter
Late spring - balcony closest is ours, as are closest windows.
Chamossieres - part of the Les Gets/Morzine ski area - skiing for all abilities.
Seating area - two settees, one a sofa bed

The Rhone / French Alps / Haute-Savoie region
Les Gets links with the Portes du Soleil - a huge ski area. The Morzine/Les Gets ski area is ample for most skiers for a week - cheaper pass and lots of varied skiing. If you have a car, Chamonix, Flaine and many other ski areas of the Haute Savoie Alps are an easy drive away.
Les Gets / Les Perrieres area
Ski area is the main attraction, but Les Gets and Morzine are lively towns with good shopping and eating possibilities. The local ski schools are all good, ESF is the biggest, but the British Alpine Ski School is popular with English speaking guests (www.britishskischool.com).
Walking, swimming and mountain biking in the summer are fantastic. In the summer, the area opens some of its ski lifts to uplift walkers and mountain bikers. It is stunning scenery and there are lots of activities apart from the obvious biking and walking. Les Gets has a lovely swimming lake (patrolled and with a water slide) and there is equally good swimming nearby at Lac Montriond (stunning scenery) and Lac Leman (Lake Geneva) with numerous grassy or pebble beaches. Les Gets has one of the best "Ariel Extreme" type places we've ever tried (and we've tried lots). There's a day's worth of tree top adventure courses to try and a bungee jump. Nearby Morzine has a Summer Luge and Les Gets has downhill scootering. It also has trampolining and lots of other kids activities. Golf is another summer attraction. The course in Les Gets is very good. It is 18 hole and a tight challenge for all golfers. Not long, but varied and set half way up the mountain amongst the pine forest. Greens are receptive and even-paced, but a devil to read! There are competitions every Sunday in season - entry open to all. Other top courses nearby are at Evian (championship course but reasonably priced) and Chamonix (surprisingly flat given its location and with stunning views). There are free tennis courts in Les Gets. If they are booked a couple of local hotels hire out their courts for about 10 euros per hour. There's horse riding at Morzine and Les Gets and a great outdoor swimming complex in Morzine (bring your speedos - no shorts).
Visit www.lesgets.com for more details. On the village plan of Les Gets - available on the above website - we are in square I5.
How to get there
Les Gets is around 25 minutes from the A40 "Motorway Blanch". It is ideally situated whether driving or flying. Geneva airport is around and hour's drive, whilst Chambery is about and hour and 20 minutes. There are buses from Geneva and car hire at both airports. Jet2 and EasyJet fly to both airports from numerous locations in the UK. Driving from the UK is simple also. The apartment is 570 miles from Zeebrugge (for ferries from Hull - our preferred overnight crossing) 550 miles from Calais. It is motorway virtually all the way and the journey can be done in 8 hours, longer with decent breaks.

Further details indoors: Apartment is on ground floor with easy access from off-road parking and ski bus stop. A ski room is available for use. The living area takes up the largest portion of the apartment's 36 sq metres. It is a combined living room/dining area/kitchen and has all the facilites you would expect for a short stay (but no dishwasher or washing machine). There is a sofa bed for larger groups and a further sofa. Double doors lead out to the balcony which overlooks the ski area. There is a galley style bathroom with toilet, bidet, wash basin and hip bath with shower over. Hot water is plentiful - even our teenage daughters have never managed to exhaust it. The two bedrooms are small (5m sq) and linked. The first is a twin/double, with a high level storage cupboard. The second is accessed through the first bedroom and has bunk beds and chest of drawers. This room has double doors out onto the balcony. The hallway has coat hanging and ski-boot storage space and a large storage cupboard (this supplements the bedrooms' storage). If you've stayed in typical French purpose built apartments, you'll be pleasantly surprised at the amount of space, particularly in the living area.
Further details outdoors: Balcony facing east. Shared garden - good for sledging in winter. Ski lifts are ten minute walk away, two minutes in ski bus or jump in the car and you can park (for free) 20m away from a super fast 6-man chair lift that links into the fantastic Ranfolly bowl of the Les Gets ski area. We have never queued here - even at half term!

PRICES QUOTED ARE FOR THE APARTMENT PER WEEK (not per person). However, the prices do not include cleaning. We can arrange for this to be done after your stay, but this would incur an extra charge. The apartment is easy to clean and most people choose to do this and reduce costs.
