The Rhone / French Alps / Haute-Savoie region
La Haute-Savoie consists of the small nook of France boardering Switzerland across Lake Leman to the North, and Italy to the East. It is a sub-region of the Rhone-Alpes. The region offers a fantastic combination of of swiss and french culture, with some wonderful traditional food such as Raclette and Fondue. The area is a perfect retreat for activities in the summer and winter.
The Les Gets / Rte Des Chavannes area
Les Gets is an ideal place to stay with shops, bars, restaurants and the huge variety of outdoor activities available (facilities may be more limited outside of July and August).
Between Lake Geneva and Mont-Blanc, at the heart of the region known as Les Portes du Soleil, Les Gets (1172 m – 2002m) is a haven that everyone wants to keep as a personal secret. Here, we respect traditions, guarantee a warm welcome and ensure quality service at all times.
From its origins (in the 11th century), the village of Les Gets has had wood in its veins. The name "Les Gets" came from the local dialect words "gitte" or "giette" meaning the corridors used to send logs rapidly down the hillside.
Well before tourism developed from winter sports, wood and water were the main resources for the inhabitants of Les Gets. They used different varieties of pine for building: from the main structure to chimneys, from partition walls to roofing tiles; everything was made from wood. It was also used to make kitchen utensils (spoons and buckets for example) and agricultural tools, such as forks, rakes, scythe handles and coffins. In the springtime the sawmills would operate, because at that time of year, the water volume is higher due to the melting of the winter snows. Today, the forests which cover two thirds of the Commune are still a veritable livelihood, such as: A wood fired heating system supplying 12 Commune buildings, Sawmills which are still functioning, a tradition omnipresent in our architecture, crafts and heritage etc...

Les Gets is really extremely easy to get to, Geneva is the closest airport and is only a 1 hour journey. Geneva is a really popular airport, you can travel with Easyjet through to Swiss Air and BA. You can also easily drive from the UK, from the south of England it is 11 hours door to door, there are also some fantastic sights to see on the way and some lovely towns you can stay in if you choose to break the journey with a nights accomodation.
There are various transfer companies that can provide taxi’s to and from Geneva airport. Two options are www.skiidygonzales.com or www.geneva2morzine.com.
