About the home

La Borderie de la Gontrie offers the peace and the tranquillity of the countryside while located less than 1 hour from Nantes Airport and 4 hours from Paris Airport.

3 rooms from 160 to 270 sq. ft with an independent bathroom are each located in a different small house.

It probably was built in the seventeenth century as a farm, being modified later to a prison and finally back to a cottage at the end of the nineteenth century. We bought it in 2005 and rebuilt many parts of the buildings while trying to maintain both the spirit and historic appearance of them.

The site is surrounded by a park of 3 Ha with no neighbours for absolute peacefulness.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Vendee region

There are actually two Vendees.
The West Vendee is the sea side with vast beaches of sand, water sports and fun, very much tourism oriented.

The East part is called "Le Bocage" (it describes field surrounded by shrubs and bushes). It is a countryside where you will find more cultural and family activities: Vendee war history, middle age castles, parks, animals, etc.

- BY PLANE
Nearest Airport is NANTES but depending where you do come from, it may be easier to fly to Paris

- BY TRAIN
TGV to Nantes is 2 hour far from Paris (there are TGV coming from the south of France as well)

- BY CAR
Highway A87, exit #5 "Les Essarts".

A good combination is to fly to Paris, take the TGV to Nantes and rent a car from there to avoid the Parisian traffic jam. We provide a detailed road map on our website for the final portion between the highway and La Gontrie.
