Auberge du Chalezan
About the home
The Auberge du Chalezan apartment is large and airy, with traditional style decoration in keeping with the chalet and beautiful Alpine setting. It has large vaulted ceilings showing the exposed wood and beautiful beams.
There are two bedrooms both with ensuites. Bedroom one has a balcony and a double bed, while bedroom two has a large window overlooking Mont Joly and two twin beds, either for singles or put together to use as a double. All the beds are freshly made up prior to your arrival and towels are supplied.
In the living room there is a balcony and access to your own terrace with a ski locker for the winter and outdoor seating and a BBQ for the summer months, overlooking alpine pastures with cows grazing in the spring or ready for sleding and snowmen in the winter!
The living room has loads of books, DVDs and maps at your disposal along with a TV (local and UK satellite) and wi-fi internet. There is a settee and a large sofa bed either to sleep an additional 2 people or just lots of comfy seating to relax after your day's activities...
The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need to make it feel like a home away from home:
gas oven, 4-ring hob, microwave, raclette/fondu machines,
dining table with seating for 4-6 people, kettle, toaster, coffee machine, even a French press cafetière and all the pots/pans and plates to go with!
There is a fresh bread delivery service to the front door (at no extra cost) serving you the best French croissants for breakfast without you having to lift a finger!
There is also a laundry service: clothes washed and dried and delivered back to you.

Les Contamins is in the heart of the French Alps, at only 50 minutes drive from Geneva airport it is so quick to get here! which is great for holidays as less time traveling = more time relaxing!!
Perfectly positioned between switzerland and Italy means day trips to a swiss themal spa or a pizza in Italy both at less then an hours drive away perfectly posible.
The Les Contamines-Montjoie area
The Chalet is in the village of Les Contamines Montjoie, a beautiful traditional ski resort in the winter months and, in the summer, home to walkers/ mountaineers and anyone after some fresh air and relaxation! Les Contamines is a great little village and, as the French call it, the 'best kept secret' just a few kilometers from famous Chamonix. Les Contmaines offers all the amazing skiing you would expect from this part of the world, but without all the people and without having to waste precious ski-ing time in queues!
There are loads of lovely little restaurants up on the hill, some just converted old wooden chalets with open fires serving mulled wine, some offering waiter service and 3-course meals. Whatever your needs, there will be something to suit you.
The resort of Contamines offers fantastic skiing for all levels, available on the same ski pass as St Gervais and Megeve. The ski domaine is just huge, offering a half pipe and ski/board park as well as hosting the world cup ski-a cross every year and the biathlon for nordic skiing; needless to say the facilities for nordic skiing are unbeatable!
There are lots of walks for snow shoeing, all well sign posted and maintained (some of which actually leave from the chalet door!).
There are husky dog sled rides in Contamines as well as moonlit horse and sled rides. You can eat in a mountain restaurant with sledging activities included!
In the summer the list of activities is endless: hiking, paragliding, river rafting, rock climbing, swimming in mountain lakes, horse riding, trail running (the amazing UTMB runs literally straight past the door!) and so many more, please just ask me for more ideas...
It is also a fabulous place to relax, beautiful wild flowers to admire and two spas just down the road. St Gervais is actually a natural spa town - the amazing 'Thermes' offer outdoor heated whirlpools and full spa treatments.
The main village itself has loads of yummy restaurants offering the classic pizza to more traditional local foods (cheese!) or steaks, we even have a michelin star, gastro restaurant.
The shops offer all you might need during your stay, whether it be stocking up on local wine or a new ski outfit! In the winter you can hire skis locally and, in the summer, mountain bikes or tennis rackets.
The main selling point of this area for me is that you get the best of both worlds: the Chalet is near the main road, so easy access and it's a two minute walk from the free bus service that runs to and from the village/ski lift, and yet it's so close to nature: we are on the edge of the forest so deer come down and are often seen eating in the huge field that backs on to our garden. There are so many walks leading straight from the chalet, as long and as hard as you like, for example, just 2 hours from our door is a stunning alpine village called Miage, with its breathtaking, chocolate box scenery and cows grazing on alpine pastures!
We have a snow clearing contract in the winter and, in the summer, all the lawns are mowed and flowers watered, to make it easy for guests, but also a beautiful spot to be in.
I am passionate about this area as it has so much going for it -there's just so much to do! Living here all year round is a privilege.

Four of us stayed a week and had a great time, it is worth noting that you do need a car to get out and about, Louise was very helpful and the chalet was all what we expected, two main bedrooms with very comfy beds, both bedrooms have nice clean bathrooms, useful sofa bed in lounge which we made use of as well. |

We were recommended Louise's chalet by a friend who had stayed and were not disappointed. The chalet apartment was warm. clean and comfortable. We stayed with our 9 month old daughter who also enjoyed the holiday and the snow. I loved waking up in the morning with an excellent view of the mountains and on the days we did not ski we took advantage of some of the many walks and tracks that start on the chalets door step. Louise, Neil and and Taffy are great hosts and we look forward to seeing them next year. Or if we can make it out, seeing them in the summer. |
