Very comfortable ground floor apartment which can sleep up to 6 -7, oriented towards the south with superb views and direct access on to the park. Ideal for a small family as the apartment is very children friendly. The building was once the stable block for the chateau and the main architectural features of the old stables remain intact with high vaulted ceilings.
The property is at 600m of altitude in the Ariège Pyrenees and benefits from a very favourable climatic influence from the Mediterranean. It is surrounded by stunning mountain scenery and would suit anyone who loves unspoilt natural surroundings.
There are a multitude of outward bound type activities available literally on your doorstep including in summer: canoeing and white water rafting, trekking and endless walking, canyoning, hydro-speed, fishing, rock climbing, paragliding, golf, adventure tree parks etc and then in winter skiing (down hill and cross country), snow shoes, ice climbing, thermal spas etc. There are 6 down hill ski stations within 45 min drive and the largest cross country skiing station in the Pyrenees the 'Plateau de Beille' which is about 10 miles away.
The apartment is around 1h 15min from the airports of Carcassonne and Toulouse. There is also the possibility of coming from Barcelona or Girona (2h 30min).

The Midi-Pyrenees / Ariege region
The château is situated in the heart of wild and stunning countryside, like the flora and the fauna that animates it. The micro climate is favourably influenced by the Mediterranean. Within the local area you will discover numerous interesting places and Cathar castles, witnesses of the fascinating past of the Ariege department of France.
Les Cabannes area
Throughout the year this is the place for all those who love sports and all outward bound activities. For example Fishing, Potholing, horse riding, canyoning, rafting, climbing and in the winter you are no more than 45 min drive from 7 down hill ski stations the closest being Ax les Thermes which is 15 min away. The plateau de Beille, recognised as the finest cross country skiing in the Pyrenees is also only a 15 min drive (bus).
Les Cabannes the local village which is a 200 m walk has a train station and shops bars and restaurants.

Further details indoors: There are two separated bedrooms on a mezzanine level, one with a double bed the other with two single beds and single futon. These both give on to the living area downstairs.

Further details outdoors: In the park of the chateau there is a large shared pool 16Mx7M and tennis court. About 200 m away there is the village of Les Cabannes with its Bars, shops, restaurants, etc. The local area also offers many interesting places to visit both historical and other. The Ariège department has a rich and fascinating history.
The Cathars were numerous in this area in the 11th century and there are many Castles from this period, always built in strategically interesting positions and can be visited today, Montsegur is probably the most famous example but is certainly not visually the most impressive, there are many others.
