Paradise in Provence

About the home
Set in ten hectares, Baubesse nestles in the beautiful Alpilles hills close to Les Baux-de-Provence, an ancient village perched high on a crag, a short drive from St-Rémy-de-Provence.
The house is surrounded by pine and mulberry trees, cypresses and oaks with wonderful views on all sides. Behind is a fine olive grove and in front, the view stretches over unspoiled countryside to where the Mediterranean can be glimpsed on the horizon. The garden around the secluded swimming pool on one side of La Bergerie, is planted with lavender and rosemary and surrounded by wild mountain landscape. The infinity pool is solar heated and there is a poolside fridge for cool drinks.
Five minutes away by car you can shop in the village of Maussane, which has grocery stores, a butcher and a bakery, as well as a bank, a post office and even a couple of hairdressers. The big main square there is lined with shady plane trees and is a pleasant spot to sip a pastis on a café terrace. Les Baux is a short walk away and well worth a visit to see the magnificent ruins of the medieval château there. It is a very popular place and has lots of shops selling local handicrafts, herbs and perfumes.

The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Bouches-du-Rhone region

Provence is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world, with its blend of sun-baked hilltop villages and glamorous resorts like St Tropez and Nice.
Nice shows the influence of years as a world-class resort with its famous Promenade des Anglais and the city offers a real taste of France with its amazing bouillabaisse.
The gorgeous sunshine of the Riviera has made the Cote d’Azur a powerful draw since the early nineteenth century, and the yearly influx of celebrities for the Cannes film festival only heightens the area’s allure.

Our family spent a week here in July. It is a remarkable home. The photos don't give justice to the gorgeous views! We went to Maussane-les-Alpilles in the mornings (3min drive) to get fresh pastries for breakfast which we had on the terrace. You can spend endless days here without leaving the area as it is just so relaxing and beautiful. We took walks and hikes. Our 3 kids loved the pool, playing ping-pong and just exploring in the surrounding area. We BBQ'ed, had wonderful wine and ate in the terrace while overlooking the incredible views. Nissim, the owner, has plenty of suggestions as to where to go/what to do. We hope to come back for a longer visit next time!

It was worrying getting up there but well worth the drive up the unmade road. Just perfect for chldren/grandchildren. Access to all the best bits of Provence. And a most wonderful owner who was a mine of local information and whose library would make a village proud. We are definitely going back.
Recommended for:Age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children.
