Home description
This privately owned, top floor- direct to piste, two bedroom mezzanine apartment with fabulous views of the Tarentaise valley, is situated in Aiguille Grive 1, it is an attractive, well designed complex in Charmotteger, Les Arc 1800. We are currently upgrading the apartment for Winter 2009 with a new leather double bed, new leather sofa bed and wall mounted Flat screen TV/DVD to make you stay as enjoyable as possible.
Set amongst trees at the edge of a forest – simply ski from the back of the apartment building ( exit the rear of the complex onto the piste, which is just yards from our own apartment ) down to Charmotteger chairlift less than one minute away. The whole of Les Arcs, as well as the huge Paradiski area, are on the doorstep.
The convenient location has the added bonus of a gorgeous bakery and deli – try their chocolate twist croissants and their seriously good pizza – a ski hire and ski pass shop are also within the apartment buildings.
More importantly, its high altitude and extensive snow canons mean snow is guaranteed and the Paradiski area provides a staggering 420 km of runs, suitable for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities. There is also 15 km of cross-country trails – le ski de fond.
Our apartment is arranged over two floors, is cosy, well heated and well equipped. Downstairs comprises a bathroom, kitchenette, lounge/dining area and balcony with beautiful views of the valley below. The kitchen has a kettle, a three ring hob, oven/grill, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and vacuum cleaner. The sofa in the lounge area will convert to a bed.
There is a wooden stairway up from the living area to the mezzanine floor, which has a cabin with two bunk beds, a cot bed and a double bedroom with television.

The Rhone / French Alps / Savoie region
The Savoie region is well known not only for its fabulous scenery but also for its delicious local produce and wine. Try the famous raclette or dip into a Savoyard fondu.
A short drive away is the stunning Annecy with its beautiful old town, lake and beaches, or the equally beautiful Lac du Bourget and its beaches near the ancient town of Chambery. Moreover, you are on the borders of Italy and Switzerland with all the travel opportunities they represent……….
Les Arcs / Arc 1800 area
Arc 1800 is at the heart of the Paradiski area, and is the central point of the Les Arcs villages with its lifts linking in all directions, including La Plagne. The apartment is located at the foot of the Aiguille Grive mountain hence direct and easy access to the slopes.
The four sub villages of Charvet, Chantel, Villards and Charmotteger that make up Arc 1800 are continuous with each other. Charmotteger is relatively quiet, but only a short walk away from the bustling epicentre of bars, restaurants, boutiques, supermarkets and nightlife.
It is a gourmet area with some truly good restaurants, a range of Savoyard delicatessens and the two large supermarkets in resort offer an impressive range of ready cooked specialities.
Non-skiing amenities in winter include a natural skating rink, snowmobiling, snow shoeing, two cinemas, a bowling alley, and squash courts. There is a free, regular bus shuttle linking the villages and the monorail train whizzes down from Arc 1600 to Bourg-Saint-Maurice in only seven minutes.
Les Arcs is also wonderful in the summer, and the slopes at the back of the apartment become the golf course. The only problem is, however, that the stunning scenery could quite literally put you off your swing. Walking and hiking opportunities are in abundance, as well as mountain biking, parapenting and horse riding. There is also an open air swimming pool, a tennis club and general sports club offering a variety of sporting opportunities.

How to get there
We tend to fly and the nearest airport during the ski season is Chambery ( 1 1/2hrs ). However, you have a choice of Geneva (2 1/2hrs), Lyon (2hrs), Grenoble (2hrs) and Turin (2 1/2hrs). A range of budget airlines fly into all of these airports. Or simply take the snow train from London direct to Bourg-Saint-Maurice.
For car hire we would suggest you peruse the various websites for the best deal. However, be wary in Geneva as there are car hire facilities on both the French and Swiss areas of the airport. The French tend to be cheaper and on exiting the customs area on arrival, you will need to go back up to the departure level and pass through French customs in order to access the car hire desks. The Swiss desks are just to your left as you exit the customs area and are more convenient. Swiss hire cars also include the Swiss motorway toll sticker, unlike the French cars. If you are stopped at Swiss customs on your return, you will be asked to pay 40 euros for this sticker.
There are bus, taxi and train transfers from all airports. Please contact us if your need information or further assistance with these.
By road, you will travel nearly all the way on motorways or on dual carriageways (sIngle carriageway from Moutiers, which is just a 1/2hr drive from Bourg St.Maurice). The resort of Les Arcs 1800 is situated about a 15 minutes drive up the mountain from the Savoie valley town of Bourg St.Maurice. In Bourg itself, the large railway terminal for the Eurostar and the furnicular railway can be found, the latter taking you up to Les Arcs 1600 in just 7 minutes. From 1600 you can get a free ski bus up to 1800.
Before you drive up the mountain to Les Arcs we suggest you call in at Super U or Intermarche, situated on the Les Arcs road out of town, and stock up with supplies. Les Arcs 1800 resort has plenty of shops, but grab a bargain on food and wine from the supermarkets in Bourg.
Once in the resort our apartment is located in the Charmettoger area. There are parking spaces available, however they are like gold dust, but there is a covered parking very close to our apartment from around €10 per day. Bags can be dropped off outside then leave your car for the week! We also would advise that snow chains may be required, check with the hire car company.
We can supply you with a map right to the door!
