AIGUILLE GRIVE 3
About the home
The ski/summer apartment is in Aiguille Grive, an attractive, wooden clad apartment complex in Charmettoger (see map and photos), set among trees at the edge of a forest. It is very conveniently situated for skiers and snowboarders as the lift is so close by, and you can ski back to the door. The whole of Les Arcs as well as the huge Paradiski area (425 km of pisted runs) are easily accessible from the doorstep. For convenience there is a bakery which also sells basic provisions, and a ski hire and ski pass shop within the complex.
Charmettoger is one of the three main villages that make up Arc 1800. It is a relatively quiet part with lovely views over the valley and magnificent mountains, yet only a short walk away is the busy, cosmopolitain centre of Arc 1800, with its variety of excellent restaurants and lively bars. Supermarkets, other shops, the ski school, tourist office, and a laundrette are there too.
Our holiday home has a spacious, open feel and is very light and bright. It is spaced over three floors - the central floor being the main living area with a balcony and the upper and lower floors having the bedrooms and shower/bathrooms. The floor area is 56 square metres (700 square feet).
The design of this apartment makes it ideal for one or two families or a group of friends The beauty of Charmettoger and the convenience of the location of Aiguille Grive within Arc 1800 make it an excellent base for winter and summer activities.

Further details indoors:
Aiguile Grive faces the Aiguille mountains. There are three buildings in the complex which share a semi enclosed area away from the road where there are trees, lawns and paths. Each building has five or six stories and there are two lifts in all buildings. Our apartment is in Aiguille Grive 3, the most recently constructed building, All interior facilities are in excellent condition.
The middle floor of the triplex apartment consists of an entrance hall (useful for leaving skis and boots) leading to a living room with sofa bed (which separates into two single beds) dining table and chairs and TV. At one end of the living room is a kitchenette and at the other a balcony overlooking a wooded area and up the mountain to the peaks beyond.
The kitchenette is fully equipped, with a three ring hob, oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher. and vacuum cleaner, also a microwaveoven and coffee machine.
There is a wooden stairway up from the living area to the upper floor, which has a large bedroom with twin beds, a cabin with bunk beds and a bathroom with WC. From the entrance hall is a stairway down to the lower floor, which has a large bedroom with twin beds, a cabin with bunk beds, and a shower room with WC. Travel cots are usually available. Both double/twin bedrooms, and the living room and balcony have beautiful views.
At the end of a days skiing one can ski up to the mountain entrance to the building, shake off the snow in the area provided for this, and within two minutes be inside the apartment. In summer there is a table tennis table for use within the complex. The apartment is close to the entrance to the golf course and to the start of several walking trails (route maps available from the tourist office).
Further details outdoors:
In winter, parking charges are controlled through a ticket system on entry and exit to the resort – you must pay for your parking either at the ticket machines in the car parks, or at the machines at the exit to the resort.
There is a convenient covered car park opposite the apartment complex which costs €0.70 per hour or €75 for a week long pass (you must inform the car park operator at the start of your stay if you want a week long pass). Outdoor parking anywhere elsewhere in Arc 1800 costs €0.40 per hour.
Parking is free in summer.
Ski passes for the whole Paradiski area, with lifts rising to 3,226 metres and which covers La Plagne as well (there is a cable car linking the two ski areas), can be purchased in the ski hire shop on the ground floor.
The bakery/delicatessen, conveniently situated on the ground floor sells hot pizza as well as bread, croissants (freshly made on the premises), milk and groceries.
For non-skiers and those visiting in summer there is a free, regular bus service which links all the Les Arcs Villages and the high-speed "Arc-en-ciel" funicular train takes you from Arc 1600 to Bourg St. Maurice in seven minutes, allowing exploration of a large part of this highly scenic area without a car. The bus stops outside Aiguille Grive.

The Rhone / French Alps / Savoie region

Rhône-Alpes is located in the south-east of France. The east of the region contains the western part of the Alps and borders Switzerland and Italy. The region contains Europe's highest peak, Mont Blanc, which is easily visible from most of Les Arcs.
The Les Arcs villages are high in these mountains. and the ski slopes above and around them are well maintained. During the ski season the Paradiski area is "snow sure".
In summer the weather is often very warm and sunny in Savoie - there are several open air swimming pools. There are great walking trails over a wide region. Free maps and advice on walking, hiking and mountain biking are available from the tourist board in Arc 1800.
The Les Arcs / Arc 1800 area
Arc 1800 is set in the heart of the Les Arcs Villages with magnificent views of the upper Tarantaise valley and of Mont Blanc. It is the centre point of the villages and lifts link in all directions, including to La Plagne. The apartment is located at the foot of the Aiguille Grive mountain hence direct access to the slopes.
The three main sub villages of Charvet, Villards and Charmettoger that make up Arc 1800 are continuous with each other. There are many excellent restaurants and bars, and supermarkets.
Various ski pass options are available, including one for the whole of the Paradiski (Les Arcs and La Plagne) area, and even a day pass for Val d’Isere and Tignes which are only a short drive away. The Paradiski area offers 425km of pisted runs with guaranteed snow thanks to the high altitude skiing (up to 3,226m in Les Arcs, and 3,417 in La Plagne) and extensive snow making equipment.
The huge ski area offers pistes for all standards, from beginners to experts. The area is excellent for skiers and snowboarders and also offers 15km of cross-country trails.
Non-skiing amenities in winter include a bowling alley, a natural skating rink, dog sleigh rides, snow shoeing, snowmobiling, two cinemas, squash courts and a games arcade. There is a free, regular bus shuttle linking the villages and the monorail train speeds passengers down from Arc 1600 to the town of Bourg St. Maurice, with its charming centre, in only seven minutes.
In summer there are wonderful walking and hiking opportunities, as well as mountain biking and parapenting, and horse riding. There is also a golf course, open air swimming pool and tennis courts. There is a small concert hall which is the venue for many classical and jazz concerts during the Les Arcs Music Festival in July and August. Several fascinating medieval villages can also to be explored in the valleys, within a one hour drive from Les Arcs.
During summer and winter seasons there are nurseries and crèches for young children (Les Arcs is well known as a child and family friendly resort) and a ski school for adults and children of all ages.

Fabulous location for quick access to the mountain. Short walk to the centre if you need the ski school. Hot croissants for breakfast rom the small shop in the complex are a 'must'! On-line ski hire before we travelled made collecting the kit very easy. Friendly locals and a fabulous sweetie shop kept the kids happy all week. |

Appartment was comfortable and warm, and ski in/out, which is always a bonus. Functional and clean, just what you need for an enjoyable holiday. We were a party of 4, so loads of space. The appartment is typical of French resorts, in that it is compact, so filling all the beds might mean a bit of queue for the bathrooms, and the need for traffic lights on the stairs! Great place to stay, skiing was excellent too. Information and support from the letting agency and the owner were superb. |

We had a lovely time in this flat. Very spacious with room for kids. Sledding hill right outside within view of flat. Bakery, pizza, lift pass and hire shop immediately outside. Elevator and short indoor walk to the lift and your skiing! Oh and almost forgot the covered parking right across the road. |

"Just wanted to say what a fabulous time we had at Aiguille Grive 3 - we were lucky enough to have superb snowfall just before we arrived and 5 of the 6 days whilst in Les Arcs. The apartment worked very well for us as a family and the ease of access to the slopes was ideal. The friendly ‘Faitout’ shop, lift pass booth and ski hire within the complex made the whole holiday very easy. The kids particularly enjoying walking down to the village centre to visit the chocolate/sweet shop!"
