The Rhone/French Alps region

La Cimes des Arcs is a ski in ski out apartment block with a central reception and numerous facilities as per the Chalet des Neiges website http://www.chaletdesneiges.com/uk/arc-2000-location-materiel.php#arc-2000.php

Les Arcs 2000 is in the Paradiski ski-area in the French Alps Tarentaise Valley offering uninterrupted skiing in between the areas of Les Arcs, Peisey-Vallandry and La Plagne. The area is linked by the Vanoise Express and in total over the three resorts there are 160 lifts and 425 km of pistes, with 152 green/blue (beginner) runs, 79 red (intermediate) runs and 22 black (expert) runs.

Lift passes can be purchased for the Les Arcs region or the full Paradiski region.

The Les Arcs ski area consists of 106 runs, 54 lifts and 200 kilometres of descent. The highest peak in the resort (3225 metres) is the Aiguille Rouge (Red Needle) from where a 7 km long piste with 2026 metres of vertical drop, down to the Village Villaroger, which was the speed skiing course used in the 1992 Olympics.

Les Arcs has the reputation of being one of the original French "mega-resorts" and has the specificity of a unique "avant-garde" modernist architecture with the exception of latest—Arc 1950—which is built following the traditional architecture in the Alps and also with a more defined village ambience.

The ski domain provides a mixture of open runs (especially above Arc 2000) and wooded runs (around the outlying villages of Peisey and Villaroger in particular). Its terrain park has a good reputation, with green, red and black jumps and rails. It is also good for snowboarders, with few drag lifts. The ski lifts have been gradually updated so virtually all critical lifts are modern, fast and comfortable.

"Great comfortable apartment with cool pool, spa and reception areas"

The apartment was a really good base for a large mixed ability group to ski the Les Arcs area with great links to the noted Aigulle Rouge to Villaroger ski run (8km long with 2000m drop if you go for the whole lot). With a bit of planning the good skiers can cover the whole of the Ski Paradiski area using the Vallandry double decker cable car link to the various La Plagne areas. We did get to the furthest bit in one day but you need a number of trips to cover all the areas. The kids enjoyed the hill right outside the living area balcony, mucking about in the deep snow with sledges etc whilst we sat in the warmth. The pool, sauna and steam room proved popular with all too. There are a couple of good fun bars down on the lower road in Arc 2000 for apres ski (think the best one was called the fox or something similar) and the gondola link allows easy early evening trips to Arc 1950 (we also found that the supermarket in Arc 1950 had more cohice for food etc). As an added bonus the friendly staff in the building let me store my kit for an extra day skiing as I was catching the snow train back late evening. The funicular / ski bus link to Bourg St Maurice avoided the need for a taxi transfer and was included in the day's ski pass. I have been to this place a couple of times now and I'm hoping to get back there again this season or next.
