Less than 25 minutes south are the beautiful mediterranean beaches of the Cote D'Azur, with St Maxime being the closest. Here can also be found a large variety of restaurants and bars, and access to all kinds of watersports and activities associated with beach life. St. Tropez is normally a 45 minute drive around the coast, but a pleasanter journey is to take the ferry across from St. Maxime. These operate aproximately every 12 minutes in the summer months.

Inland you will find a host of attractive hilltop villages within a one hour radius, that remain quieter and less crowded even in the busy summer months. There are numerous vineyards all offering wine tasting and tours for exploration and degustation!

Driving about 40 minutes north will find you in the stunning region of the Gorge Du Verdon, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verdon_Gorge) second only to the Grand Canyon in scale and beauty. Within a 1 hour radius of the villa you can find yourself in Cannes, Antibes, Juan les Pins, Nice and Monaco to the East, while West will lead you to Aix-en-Provence, Marseilles, Toulon and all the lovely coastal towns and villages along the coast, ie; Cassis, Cavalaire, Sanary etc. There are numerous medieval villages in the area, all offering typical Provencal charm and beauty, with Les Arcs having one of the most interesting medeival areas in the old Parage.

Of course, we are in the centre of the Provence vineyards, and within a 15 minute driving radius there are too many local vineyards and wineries to list. Suffice to say, you will not be disappointed if Winetasting is your passion!

Quite close by you can go horseriding, canoeing, fishing, and there are 6 superb Golf courses within an hours drive, with the best being only 10 minutes away. This also boasts a very comfortable Spa, so maybe partners can indulge in both!

There is a private BBQ area and ample space for covered car parking, with your own entrance to the grounds and to the apartment. There are lovely views over the vineyards to the Maures hills. We are completely private and not overlooked at all.

The apartment consists of a private entrance through the kitchen area, hallway, Lounge (or second bedroom), Double bedroom, bathroom and separate toilet. The bathroom has just (dec 2012) been completely renovated with high end fittings and walk-in shower and all new facilities, providing an ultra-modern shower room ideal for a family.

The kitchen is compact but fully equipped with Gas/Electric cooker, Microwave, Dishwasher, Fridge, coffeemaker and double sink unit. There is ample storage. The entire kitchen was renovated in May 2010, along with the separate toilet room.

Off the Hallway is the toilet, bathroom (with walk-in shower), Lounge with large Sofabed, TV/DVD facility (Terrestial channels & some UK channels), radio, table/chairs. This can easily be used as a second bedroom. At the end of the Hallway is the Bedroom with double bed and wardrobe/drawers etc. Wi-Fi is freely available.

Directly outside the apartment is the large pool (10 x 5m). The large patio has plenty of space for sunloungers, tables and chairs and even badminton or Table-Tennis. There is an attractive side garden with built-in BBQ that is exclusively available for guests. There are garden areas on different levels so there is always a quiet area to find shade and calm. Guests have exclusive access to the pool and its patio and to their own outdoor dining area. Also outside is a small Buanderie with washing machine and shower for use after using the pool.

The Friendly and approachable owners live in the house which is on two levels above the apartment. Alan & Kathy will do all they can to ensure that you have a pleasant relaxing stay!

Further details outdoors

Although 4 people can eat comfortably indoors, there is a large pool terrace with tables and chairs for a variety of dining possibilities. There is a fixed outdoor BBQ and a smaller portable BBQ available for guests, and we have badminton, boules, Table-Tennis and plenty of space for active guests!

The pool is more than just a plunge pool, with 2.2m depth at one end and 1m at the shallow end, allowing all ages to enjoy a cooling swim when required!

Also outside is the Buanderie, with additional Shower, Washing machine etc.

Further details

Although we normally only take weekly lets, do ask if you only wish to stay a few days, as this may be a possibility depending on other bookings. Longer lets may attract a discount.

We regret we do not accept pets.

The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur region

La Marjolaine is a pretty villa set in the countryside of the central Var, less than 30 minutes from the beaches of the Cote D'Azur and also less than 30 minutes from the stunning Gorge du Verdon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verdon_Gorge ) and close to many delightful villages that abound in this area. A day trip to the Gorge is a must where you may see Eagles and will certainly see fantastic scenery. We enjoy a wonderful macroclimate that is very dry and very warm in the summer months, it can get quite hot!

The Villa is ideally situated just 5 minutes from exit 36 (St Tropez/Draguignan) on the A8 Autoroute du Soleil, and only 45 minutes drive from Nice Airport. Less than 30 minutes south are the beautiful mediterranean beaches of the Cote D'Azur, with St Maxime being the closest. Here can also be found a large variety of restaurants and bars, and access to all kinds of watersports and activities associated with beach life. St. Tropez is normally a 45 minute drive around the coast, but a pleasanter journey is to take the ferry across from St. Maxime. These operate aproximately every 15 minutes in the sumer months.

Les Arcs sur Argens

Of course, we are in the centre of the Provence vineyards, and within a 15 minute driving radius there are too many local vineyards and wineries to list. Suffice to say, you will not be disappointed if Winetasting is your passion!

Quite close by you can go horseriding, canoeing, fishing, and there are 6 superb Golf courses within an hours drive, with the best being only 10 minutes away! This also boasts a very comfortable Spa, so maybe partners can indulge in both! Nearby Lac St Cassien has pedalos, boats, canoes ideal for a day by the water.

The summer months in particular offer many scores of festivals, concerts, shows and fetes that are too numerous to detail. However, every two years, in July, Les Arcs itself has a wonderful Medieval festival that is held over 4 days, and sees all the village revert to the days of Yore, dressing in colourful medieval costumes and playing host to Knights Templar, Vikings, Saracens and many other visiting troupes and players! There are working siege machines, Birds of prey, Ancient Knights, Roasting pigs, and a whole host of sights and sounds not to be missed. The highlight is a marvellous pageant and show held every evening after dark, with up to 200 players acting out various scenes in the towns converted Amphitheatre!

All the local towns and villages hold their own festivals through the summer, so you would not have to travel far to see a whole range of shows and activities.

In short, you can satisfy most interests easily within a short drive from the villa. Should you wish to just chill out and relax, the house is set in a delightfully calm, quiet area, and the pool and surrounding patio is completely private and secluded, and is ideal for quiet lazy days improving the tan or reading under the Olive trees. In addition to the Patio/shaded Terrace area and side garden, there is a larger Fruit garden with Fig, Quince, Abricot and other fruit trees.

Hi J & K,
Thank you so much for taking the time to send a lovely review for us here at La Marjolaine. It was a delight to see you both again, and both looking so well! We thoroughly enjoyed your company again and are so pleased you still find it enjoyable and peaceful here-we'll endeavour to keep it this way for your next visit in 2014!
We continued to have lovely warm weather after you left, right up until now in fact, when it is just beginning to get cooler, but still over 20 degrees C during the day.
Have a lovely Xmas in S.Africa, and we look forward to seeing you both next year.

Thanks again, Alan & Kathy.

This is a fantastic place to stay. It is located near to great beaches, but also other places of interest are relatively close. If you just want to stay at home and relax (which we did on a couple of days), the pool is fantastic!!

This will definitely not be our last visit!!

"A little slice of heaven"

We had visited the Côte d'Azur last year and wanted to return but also wanted a quiet retreat away from the coast as a base to explore inland. La Marjolaine we felt would fit the bill, and on arrival we quickly realised that it was perfect for our holiday. We had built up a good rapport with the owners Alan & Kath and now having stayed there for a week we can firmly class them as family friends. They were perfect hosts and made our stay even more enjoyable. The accommodation is excellent and we were the first guests to christen the new shower room, which is superb and a real winner. Beds comfy, view lovely and the pool fantastic and so clean. It was also so handy to be able to park our car within the courtyard area making the transfer of luggage so easy and made us feel very secure. To sum up, if you are looking for the hustle and bustle of the mad world this isn't the place for you, but if you want peace and quiet yet having everything within easy reach by car, private pool, sunbathing areas, suburb accommodation and great hosts then look no further. We loved it there and I'm sure anyone else staying will feel the same.

Thanks so much for the lovely review you have just completed! We really enjoyed meeting you both again, and also this time your daughter too. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay here and would love to see you again anytime in the future.
Good luck with the work and with the change of vehicles! Thanks again for taking the time to send the review, we really appreciate it, do keep in touch.

Love Alan & Kathy
