The Languedoc-Roussillon / Pyrenees-Orientales region
Les Angles is the premier mountain activity area of the eastern Pyrenees and also has one of the best weather records in France with over 300 recorded days of sun every year. Being surrounded by mountains rising to 3000m means that we have our own micro climate. The Languadoc-Roussillon has traditionally been the meeting point of several cultures and this is today reflected in the Catalan culture. This is also the area of the Cathars who settled in several of the mountain top castles which are now open to the public.
Les Angles, Pyrenees-Orientales area
Les Angles is situated at 1650m in the eastern Pyrenees and is the premier ski station in the Neige Catalan ski domaine which has over 300kms of pistes. With a season that normally starts in November and ends in April this is an ideal family ski destination. As well as downhill skiing we have an extensive number of cross country tracks as well as some superb snow shoeing in the bacxk country. Your host is a qualified snow shoe guide and will be pleased to arrange a day out for you. For the more laidback, try dog sledding or relaxing in one of our local natural hot pools. The area around Les Angles is also a mecca for outdoor activity lovers with rafting, canyonning, rock climbing, horse riding, archery, sailing and a superb ropes course through the trees. The mountain walking is some of the best in France with peaks rising to nearly 3000m. Your host is a qualified International Mountain leader (IML) and rock climbing instructor and would be delighted to arrange guided walking holidays for you. Les Angles has a history going back 1000 years and in addition to it's more recent development, retains its feel as a traditional pyrenean mountain village but with a strong Catalan tradition.
