Home description
The self-contained cottage stands above and adjacent to the 19th century red farmhouse which, with its adjacent cypress tree, is a landmark on the steep hillside. The spacious living/ dining room ( ft x ft) is on the first floor, with a loggia, sheltered second outdoor dining terrace to one side. The kitchen area is fully equipped and there is a separate fully equipped utility room. The master double bedroom and bathroom is on the first floor and a twin-bedroom with its own terrace and bathroom is on the ground floor. Private lawn to rear and access to hill garden in front. One parking place.
Roveglio (Bramble Farm) is a organic farm run by a small family who produce olive oil and cheese from goats and cows, a few of which are kept on the farm and others (in summer) in the high pastures. The farm activity is an attraction in its own right but is occasionally associated with noise and activity. The location is ideal for walks to the nearby World Heritage Site pilgrimage route to the church of Madonna del Soccorso and to San Bernardetto. There is an extensive file of information in the Cottage to help you get the most out of your visit.

The Lombardy / Lake Como Area
Lake Como is shaped like an inverted “Y”, and the central area is known as the Tremezzina. The scenery of the area is breathtaking, with steep wooded hills rising to grassy ridges, sometimes snow-covered until May (there is good skiing within 90 minutes of Lenno) and little towns with picturesque churches and beautiful villas. Further afield there is the walled city of Como, with its cathedral, museums and extensive shopping and Milan and just over the border, the Swiss city of Lugano.
Lenno area
Lenno is on the west shore, a small village with a large market each Tuesday, supermarkets, a bank, pharmacy, post office and restaurants, not to mention a delightful oriental-style lido beach and the exquisite Villa Balbienello. The Greenway, a lakeside walking route, enables one to walk from Lenno to nearby villages and towns such as Sala Comacina from where you can get a ferry to the only island on the lake with its 9th and 17th century churches and an unusual restaurant. In the other direction you can walk as far as Tremezzo where the Villa Carlotta houses a first class sculpture collection in an 18th century villa set in magnificent gardens.
Menaggio is a small town which lies north of Tremezzo with a greater choice of shops and one of the best ice cream shops on the lake (Gelateria Edo). The towns and villages on the lake are all connected by the ferry service, the best way to visit Bellagio, the beautiful town on the central peninsula, and Varenna on the east coast.
How to get there
The closest airport is Milan Malpensa and the next closest is Bergamo (Milan Linate is on the opposite side of Milan) which are served by a variety of carriers, both scheduled and budget airlines. Detailed travel directions are available on booking.
For car rental, a vehicle with at least a 1.3 litre engine is recommended as the road up the hill is steep.
The closest rail station is Como San Giovanni and Lenno is served by the ferry service.
