Contessa
About the home
The villa is located on the Bay of Venus and sits on a promontory that offers incredible panoramic views of Bellagio, Tremezzo and the Italian alps. The gated property has a sprawling garden where you can relax with the view before you. You can access the garden easily as you walk out of your ground-floor apartment.
Casa "Contessa" oozes style and character you would expect from a 17th century villa yet manages to retain a cozy and comfortable ambience. If you're looking for a lakeside apartment with affordable luxury look no further. The decor of the apartment has to be seen to be truly appreciated. It is adorned with original oil paintings and a frescoed ceiling and lovingly maintained by the owner's brother and sister-in-law who lives in the adjoining apartment.
With 2 French double beds, this studio apartment (40 sqm) sleeps 4 but is more suited as a romantic hideaway - a perfect retreat for a couple looking to explore the romance of the lake! Single travelers will also find this apartment a safe and convenient place to explore the area.
Lenno is a perfect home base for travelers. Everything is at your finger tips. Within a 5-minute walk from the apartment, you will find a tourist office, restaurants, bars/cafes, food & wine shops, banks, a pharmacy as well as the bus and ferry stops, which enables you to travel leisurely to all points on the lake. Furthermore, there are two pubic beaches nearby. Lenno is located in the central part and western side of the lake, making it easy to reach other tourist towns such as Bellagio (across the lake), Como (southern tip), Gravedona (northern tip) within a 30-minute ferry ride.
The owners aim to make your visit as pleasurable as possible. If you ever need anything or have a problem, you can simply knock on their door and they'll be happy to help.

Lake Como is arguably the most beautiful, the most serene and certainly the most relaxing place to holiday in Italy. If balmy lakeside walks, sun-kissed villas and tranquil boat rides take your fancy the area is sure to enthrall you. Not forgetting quintessential Italian piazzas and charming walkways as well as history in abundance. The friendly local people and relaxed atmosphere is sure to leave you desperate to return - and that is just what happened to the owners of the apartment. Within 6 months of visiting Lake Como, they relocated here from San Francisco (USA) for good. They were captivated by the tranquility and beauty of the place and found it magical and enchanting. And the weather made it all the more appealing with long summers and mild winters. The lake enjoys a mediterranean climate like no other.
The Lenno area
From the minute you arrive in Lenno you will feel relaxed and at peace. Saunter along the waterfront for an afternoon "passeggiata." Stop at one of the outdoor cafes and enjoy a cappuccino or a nice lunch. Or if you love to read while you people-watch, the waterfront is lined with benches where you can read at your leisure. At the end of the waterfront you will find Hotel San Giorgio where a late afternoon aperitivo is a must. Drink a Prosecco or two while you wait for dusk and be mesmerized by the sparkling lights from across the lake. The view from this location or from Bar Sport or, even better, from the villa's garden is unmatched. Other leisurely activities in Lenno include sunbathing, which is available in the garden or at the beaches, a mere 2-minute walk. The open market sets up on the waterfront on Tuesdays and there you can shop for produce as well as local cheese and salami, among other things. Not to be missed is a visit to Villa Balbianello, a beautiful villa with majestic views and gardens and site of James Bond and Star Wars. It can be accessed easily on foot or by taxi boat outside the gate. Here they hold a classy "happy hour" once a week in the summer - a perfect place to enjoy live music and cocktails and to mingle with tourists and locals alike. Other villas such as Carlotta, Erba and D'este are all reachable less than 30 minutes away by car, boat or bus. Bellagio and Como are great for shopping and can be reached by ferry. As Lenno is close to the Swiss border, St. Moritz or Lugano makes for a lovely excursion. Nothing is more precious and interesting, of course, than being immersed in the local culture and among the locals. The outdoor festas, which are held on weekends throughout the summer months, offer that and more. Here is where you can taste local food such as pizzoccheri and missoltini. Dancing is a big part of the event and adults as well as kids join in on the fun. Each town hold their own festas but the biggest one on the lake is Sagra di San Giovanni (last weekend in June) and the best one in Lenno happens during Ferragosto (Aug 15). On both occasions, spectacular fireworks await you! For the outdoor types, walk up to Santuario della Madonna del Soccorso (45 minutes) or Abbazia Acquafredda (30 minutes). And if you want to be challenged, hike to Monastero di San Benedetto or Rifugio Buffalora. But if you simply want to get a feel of the towns on the lake, follow the "Greenway" connecting Colonno to Griante-Cadenabbia. The path lies directly outside the villa's gate. And last but not the least, you don't have to go far to take a painting class (http://www.fresia.com) if that is your thing. They are available right in the villa in the months of May and September.

My husband and I spent a very enjoyable fortnight in this studio apartment in Lenno. It is as it looks in the photos. The aspect is idyllic, as the large garden over-looks the lake & is private to the villa's residents. The apartment was clean and its facilities are accurately described in the listing There are good transport links for getting around the lake. We are quite active and so swam in the lake most days. We like walking and particularly recommend hiking up to the Menaggio refuge. We would also suggest having lunch at the trout farm, known as 'the old nail factory' in the Val Senagra Park. As a keen cyclist my husband really enjoyed cycling up to the church of the Madonna del Ghisallo. We loved cooking local produce that we bought from Lenno market. The owners were very hospitable and were at hand to answer any questions we had. Their knowledge of the local area helped make our stay even better. We had a great holiday. |

Lenno was the perfect spot to stay for us on Lake Como. Not too touristy but plenty of options for restaurants. The property is literally on the lake and in huge garden surrounds. It's only minutes walk to the ferry which then gives easy access to other towns like Bellagio and Tremezzo that we visited. Conchitina our host was delightful and helpful , but remained unobtrusive. |
