Home description
Jasmine cottage offers a quiet rural location within easy reach of beaches, harbours and nightlife. A great base for exploring the island, with fantastic mountain bike tracks,valley and mountain walks on the door step or within 5 minutes you can be in Vasiliki for windsurfing or sailing or just unwinding with an ouzo watching the world go by.
Views from the cottage are shared with local sheep goats and donkeys and in the village the local ladies still wear traditional costume of brown and black, many of the men still travel by donkey to work their land and yet with in minutes you are in bustling fishing villages offering nightlife and a great choice of restaurants.
The village bakery is in easy walking distance as is the supermarket and local cafe bar and grill, you will be mixing with the locals so will have ample time to practice your Greek. With a car the whole island is within easy reach and you can even island hop or combine your holiday with a weeks sailing, there are endless activities to suit all types of holiday needs.

The Ionian Islands region
Marandohori is on the beautiful Ionian Island of Lefkas neighbouring Vasiliki. Lefkas is connected to the mainland by a ferry bridge over a canal originally cut up by the Corinthians in the seventh century. A bustling town with a very modern Marina, it offers a good selection of shops and cafe culture.
Lefkas is a green island, home to cypresses, olive groves and vineyards. In some of the villages the woman still wear the traditional dresses of brown with bustle and headscarves and donkeys are still very much in use.
The west coast offers beautiful beaches with dramatic mountain views and small tourist villages and on the South coast is the windsurfing Mecca, Vasiliki home to the wind god 'Eric'. Sivota's picturesque bay offers an array of tasty fish restaurants and heading North from Vasiliki is the islands biggest tourist resort of Nidri, where lots of bars tourist shops and tavernas await you but also fantastic views across to Scorpios Island (home of the infamous Onassis family) and Meganisi Island.
Enjoying hot sunny days and warm balmy evenings our summer runs from early April until late October with little or no rain through the main summer months, average summer temperature is 25-30∘.
There are many places of interest on the island including the old mountain town of Karya the centre of the island's lace and weaving industry which has a fascinating small museum. The Faneromeni Monastery and Cape Lefkatas light house.
All along its coastline, Lefkas offers stunning views of of small bays and beaches, with inland mountain villages and big tourist resorts it is an island that has something to suit all tastes.
Lefkas / Marandohori area
Marandohori is a traditional rural village, farming is still very much the way of life, there is a local bakery, cafe and supermarket.
From Marandohori the resort of Vasiliki is a 5 minute drive, the resort is a windsurfing haven and some of the clubs offer private daily and weekly tuition or just kit hire depending on your experience. There is also catamaran and dinghy sailing opportunities and there is a local diving school. We can make bookings and provide prices for all of these activities.
The area being mountainous, there are some fantastic mountain bike routes or walking, whichever you prefer. We can provide biking routes of guided rides, depending on you level of experience. Many people prefer to bring their own bikes but we do have mountain bikes for rental.
If sailing is your thing how about a 2 centre holiday, from Sivota and nearby Vlicho you can charter yachts.
The island of Kefalonia is opposite and you can island hop, the ferry operates from Vasiliki twice daily and takes about 45 minutes to Fiskardo. There are other boating trips available from both Vasiliki and Nidri, including the beautiful Island of Ithaca and also the the amazing private island of Scorpios, belonging to the Onassis family.
How to get there
You can reach the house by direct flights from Gatwick and Manchester to Preveza Airport with Monarch, Thomas Cook and Thomsons. The flights operate from May until mid October.
The house is 1 hour away from Preveza airport. You can sometimes buy flights from Sailing holidays available online sailingholidays.com or try satelitetravel.co.uk.
Transfers from the airport can be arranged by car hire or taxis. A taxi can be arranged in advance and costs approx £70, the taxi drivers are local ad very reliable. Car hire can also be arranged in advance from as little as £20 per day, we can book this locally for you. It is easy to find the house, you can take the direct route (about an hour) or the scenic route to really put you in the holiday mood, stopping off on the West Coast for a swim and a spot of lunch, taking as long as you like.
Windsurfing kit can be transferred at a cost of £70, no limit. This price includes 2 adults.
Flights are available to Athens through out the year with Easyjet, BA and Olympic Airways , car hire can be arranged through the airlines or with Europcar online. The transfer to Lefkas is about 6 hours but is an interesting drive and Athens is well worth the visit. A bus operates from Athens to Lefkas direct 3 times a day and costs around £30 per person single journey.
You can also bring your own car and travel by ferry from Italy,the ports are Venice, Ancona or Brindisi to Igomenitsa which is about 2 and half hours drive. Ferries with Superfast, Minoan or Bluestar can be booked online.
A ferry from Kefalonia is also an option if you prefer regional flights, they run twice a day and take about 45 minutes and then a 10 minute drive from the port to the house. Kefalonia airport is only about 1 hour from the port at Fiskardo, an excellent choice to if you fancy a 2 centre holiday.

Further details indoors: The cottage has full cooking facilities and an outside BBQ area, a perfect space to unwind after a busy day relaxing on the beach. Although only one bedroom, there is a double bed settee in the lounge and extra single beds can also be arranged. Jasmine Cottage is small but fully furnished to make your stay enjoyable in relaxed and friendly surroundings.
We offer an laundry service and can also provide beach towels as well as welcome packs with local honey and in the summer, home grown produce including Fig preserves, fresh from the gardens. For an extra fee we can arrange breakfast every morning or on request.
Tell us if you are celebrating a special occasion and we can organise a cake or hamper for you.
Further details outdoors: The cottage has it's own patio/terrace area which is private; however if you are travelling with children you can make use of the children's play facilities in the main garden.
There is no pool at Jasmine cottage but with in 5 minutes there are pools that are open to the public, free of charge.
Car hire is essential; however, we can organise transfers from the airport.

Basic welcome pack provided on arrival. The cottage is within the gardens of the owners house with its own private areas. The owners are English but have lived in Greece for many years.
