The Ionian Islands region
Enjoy the unspoilt and traditional charm of the Greek Island of Lefkas, all within easy driving access of the mainland. Crossing the canal excavated by the Corinthians eliminates any need for ferries. The fourth largest of the Ionian Islands boasts 117 km of coastline, from long sandy beaches to small rocky coves backed by the rugged white cliffs from which the island takes its name. The dramatic central mountain ridge is softened by an array of lush green valleys clad in olive groves and vineyards with tall cypress trees standing sentinel. Women wearing the traditional dresses and fine lace shawls continue cottage industries or help with the unchanging Greek rural life.
Lefkas / Vlicho area
Villa Elena is superbly situated to explore many of the nearby towns and villages.
NIDRI Just 5 minutes drive, or 20 minutes easy walk the cosmopolitan town of Nidri lies in sharp contrast to the sleepy village of Vlicho. With a variety of shops, bars, tavernas and restaurants it is an ideal place to sit on the harbour front watching the world go by. From here one can take regular boat trips to neighbouring islands, often accompanied by inquisitive dolphins. The gently sloping beach provides safe bathing, even for the youngest, while the more adventurous can partake in the water sports on offer, including paragliding and the “flying fish”. For those preferring more tranquil water sports, small motor boats, sailing dinghies and yachts may be hired. By night the pedestrian area comes alive and for the young at heart there are a number of unobtrusive clubs and discos. Those wanting to explore further can hire bicycles, scooters or cars.
HARADIATIKA A short distance away lies the hidden gem of Haradiatika, with its white stone square surrounded by small traditional buildings. Protected on three sides by the towering mountains refresh yourself at one of the welcoming tavernas. Use all your senses to appreciate the flora and fauna of the island.
LEFKADA TOWN On the Northern tip, the island’s main town of Lefkada displays it’s unique architecture. It’s vibrant pedestrian area, surrounded by exclusive shops, bars, museums and churches, contrasts with yet compliments it’s up to date large marina with all the facilities the yachting fraternity may wish for.
VASSILIKI On the South coast the town of Vassiliki is a haven for those who enjoy water sports, mountain biking or hiking, with an abundance of leisure facilities. For those not as sporty an abundance of bars and restaurants hug the harbour side.
How to get there
Flights to Preveza airport ( 40 mins away) from Manchester and Gatwick are available May to October. Taxis from the airport to Vlicho can be pre-booked, and cost roughly 45 euros. There are several major car hire companies available from within Preveza airport. Schedule flights to Athens ,including budget airlines, and transfer to Lefkas are available throughout the year.

Further details outdoors: Externally, Villa Elena boasts a 10 m x 4 m infinity swimming pool, complete with poolside shower. Next to which lies the poolside dining area with stone-built barbecue. The sun terrace has sun lounges and a giant bean bag. There is also a separate, secluded sofa area.

We all agreed that if we ever won the lottery this is what we'd buy as we gazed across the infinity pool and the panoramic views of the Ionian Sea punctuated by tiny islands. We never tired of watching the yachts sail into the harbour or watch the town gradually come alive with twinkling lights as we sipped our evening drinks and fired up the barbeque. It is an absolutely stunning place and we just couldnt get over the view. Standing on the steps of the villa looking out across thepool, the view actually looks like a picture on a movie screen. Its almost unreal. The house is also beautifully designed and furnished. Idont think we saw another place on the whole island we liked better. my family is already trying to work out when we can all go back to Villa Elena!! Lovely villa with great views.
