Nidri, sometimes spelt Nydri, is the island's main tourist resort and has an absolutely stunning setting at the mouth of the long and impressive inlet of Vlycho bay. There is a spectacular view of the many tiny islands dotted around the turquoise blue sea, one of which is Scorpios, privately owned by the Onassis family.
Nidri (Nydri) has everything for a great seaside holiday - a great variety of eating and drinking options, lots of boat excursions, plenty of water sports. The beach is very popular during the summer but for those of you looking for bigger and slightly quieter beaches there are many to choose from on the west coast of the island, around 45 minutes away.
Nidri (Nydri) was once the playground of billionaire Aristotle Onassis and until his death, the area remained quite exclusive and undeveloped. In recent years, however, it has grown into the island's biggest and liveliest resort with many bars and tavernas lining the sea front. Its popularity has a lot to do with the sailing fraternity, who have long made its safe harbour a necessary port of call when in these waters.
The area around Nidri (Nydri) is fairly flat and therefore ideal for cycle riding or walks through the olive groves to the Nidri Waterfalls. For the more energetic, fantastic views can be seen from the surrounding hills of Nidri, covered with wonderful wild flowers and blossoms in the spring and early summer months.
This year we are offering Mountain Biking weekends from September – November. New company Get Active offer guided bike rides on Lefkas and the nearby island of Meganissi. They have a range of rides available from relaxed rides through the olive groves to advanced rides up into the mountains and along the coastline.

"Great Place, Great View!"
The house is as amazing as it looks in the pictures! It's a great house with amazing views! Has a really nice pool with BBQ facilities, cable tv, home theatre, wi-fi, fully equipped kitchen, laundry machine and everything you would need from a holiday house. Sue(the host) even prepared a welcome tray with some fruits, oil, coffee and more! The price was really good and it was absolutely worth it! Will visit again for sure! The only "minus" I can think of is the road. It takes about 7-8 minutes driving up there but it's absolutely ok after the first time! Of course you will need a car...

"Excellent Villa with one of the best views on the island"
My wife and I booked this villa for our 'babymoon' - a nice, high spec location to get away from it all for 7 nights. We got exactly what we asked for with the villa being situated high on the side of a mountain but easily accessible by car (approx. 10 minutes to get from the villa to the major bypass outside of Nidri town). Evenings were absolutely quiet save the sounds of nature, complete peace for long sleeps. The photos available speak for themselves so I shall say no more than they are true and accurate representations of the villa and its surroundings - no photoshop in sight. The view overlooking the bay outside of Gheni never got old, and we found ourselves choosing to spend our evenings swimming / having a BBQ on the large patio of the villa, heading down at night into Nidri as the mood took us. The villa is on the east of the island, and whilst the best beaches such as Egremni are on the west, the drive around the south of the island (don't go north, not as pretty) was an absolute joy to drive - long, open winding mountain roads with the roof down and sun shining. Personally, I think it's better to be on the east as that's where the boats launch from (Nidri) and it has a better buzz although the south west of the island is pretty cool too. Anyway, that's for folks to decide for themselves but it worked for us. Full disclosure - the first time you ascend the mountain road to the villa, it can be somewhat daunting if you've not had experience of such before. I didn't, but by the second day I was a pro and actually really started to enjoy the drive! Just don't rent / take a car any larger than a Suzuki Jimmy or you might run into some bother. The villa itself was to a high standard of cleanliness, with the pool maintained regularly during our stay. Outdoor lighting was soft so as not to attract too many bugs at dinner, beautiful flowers and roses decorating the property. Shower facilities very good, wifi is solid and reliable (you won't be streaming movies, but fine for surfing and sending pics home). The owner & contact on the island were both pleasures to liaise with, with no intrusion during our stay and very efficient checking in & out. The property has an 'honesty bar' which was very well stocked, and it's a simple request to replace what you take. Local amenities are 10m away at the bottom of the hill in Nidri, no bother. Recommend you hit up Carrfour either in Lefkadas or an express down south for higher value load-ups. Anyway, we loved it and were very glad to be on our mountain away from it all, but only a short drive to the action when we wanted it. We'd both recommend it - just make sure you're ok with driving up a mountain (really it's no bother - just fair warning).

"Perfect Honeymoon in the most beautiful villa."
We have just returned from our minimoon at Pelican house and it was just perfect. The house had everything we needed and we absolutely loved the sound system for listening to music while we BBQd and lounged. Sue who looks after the villa was so helpful with organising taxis into Nidri and advice on where to visit and eat (to be honest we loved the villa so much we only went out one evening). We arrived late so Sue kindly organised beautiful traditional Greek food to be picked up en-route. When we arrived there was a lovely bouquet congratulating us on our wedding, a bottle of cava, fresh bread fruit, greek yogurt, honey etc. Such a lovely touch. The views from the villa are utterly spectacular, we traveled the entire island and at no point did we see a better view. The pool and villa were spotless. I would not hesitate to recommend this villa and desperately hope to return. We are planning on returning next year and taking advantage of the villa sail option. We both really regret not doing that this time. The only thing I would say is that you definitely need to hire a car, and if you are not comfortable driving up mountain roads on the right hand side of the road this may not be the villa for you. However once you have driven the road once its completely fine and there is hardly any traffic and is worth it for the stunning views from the villa.

"A little piece of heaven!"
Amazing villa on top of the mountain, fantastic views, amazing pool & great BBQ. The last bit of the drive up is a little tricky but well worth it when you get there. We had everything we needed and didn't want to leave!

"Stunning view and all the creature comforts at your fingertips"
The view is just stunning, everything in the house actually works (not always a given in the med!) and whatever small issues there are, they get ironed out in no time. Great place with kids if they can swim, small toddlers could be an issue coz parents sleep upstairs. Perfect base to explore the islands, get yourself into some sport activities or simply sit by the pool to let the world go by. Want to get away from the hectic everyday life, this is the perfect spot! Fantastic welcome pack and excellent customer service, delivered behind the scenes without you actually even noticing it. 5 out of 5!!!
