The County Galway / County Clare / County Galway region

Western Ireland’s heartland, County Galway has a spellbinding beauty.
Galway, the largest county in Connacht, is divided by Ireland's second largest lake Lough Corrib. To the west of Lough Corrib you will find Connemara in which the village of Leenane lies overlooking Irelands only fjord, Killary.
Connemara is bounded on the west, south and north by the Atlantic Ocean. It’s wild landscapes and thriving traditions invariably claim visitors’ hearts, and chances are your first visit won’t be your last.
Woven with hiking and biking trails, the region’s weathered mountains, sheep-grazing pastures, bogs, and remote villages are raggedly stitched together by stone walls, while along Connemara’s coastline white-sand beaches offer invigorating swimming in summer and windswept walks in winter. Connemara region harbours one of the country’s largest and most important Gaeltacht (Irish-speaking) areas.
To the east of the Corrib you will find Galway city. Lined by colourful narrow shop fronts and pubs, this vibrant tangle of cobbled lanes has an intimate, village like atmosphere and an absolutely phenomenal live-music scene that attracts traditional and contemporary musicians – along with artists, writers, poets and assorted wayfarers – from all over the country and beyond.
The Leenane area
Leenane Village is a postcard perfect village found in the heart of Connemara. Surround by majestic mountains and overlooking Killary Harbour the scenery is breathtaking. There are several beautiful walks along unspoiled sandy beaches or through the hills within a short distance of the village.
There is a Post Office, 2 small grocery shop, a sheep and wool museum and a craft/gift shop located in the village.
There are two bars Hamilton's Bar and Gaynors "The Field" Bar. Leenane was the setting for the film, The Field, and of Martin McDonagh's plays The Beauty Queen of Leenane and The Lonesome West.
Killary Harbour, Irelands only fjord is a remarkable, beautiful sea inlet, which runs 16km from the village of Leenane into the Atlantic Ocean.. It has been described as Ireland´s only true fjord; carved by glaciers and deeper along parts of its length than it is at its mouth. In fact, the mouth of the fjord is almost blocked by a rugged little island.
When you stay at Killary Haven you are within a close distance to a wide range of outdoor activities and places of interest. The house is actually approximately 500 metres from an adventure centre. Its nearsest beach is a ten minute drive and the "Western Way" (a well know walk) is a mere 2 minutes walk from the house. Some of the activities in the area are
