The Puglia/Molise region
Puglia has a typical Mediterranean climate. It is sunny most of the year making it perfect for a summer break or to escape a cold and wet autumn or winter! Temperatures range from 20-25°C in April reaching up to 30-33°C in the height of summer although there is often a cooling sea breeze. If you need any weather advice, please just contact us and we will give you any information.
In the far south of Italy, in the heel of the boot, Villa Rinalda is just 10 miles from the beautiful baroque city of Lecce -the "Florence of the South".
Come and explore the splendour of the golden Lecce stone of the dozens of palaces, churches and even an ampitheatre in this enchanting town.
Just down the coast, witness the turquoise harbour of the fortified town of Otranto where the fishing boats moor, the dazzling white city of Ostuni and where the infamous Garibaldi landed at Gallipoli. Venture north to discover the mystical 'Trulli' - conical shaped houses scattered along the coast and in abundance at Alberobello.
For wine and food lovers, this region can not disappoint, being near the famous Salentino wine region, both reds and whites are fabulous. All cuisine in this area is fresh and home-made especially the olive oil and pasta. Being just minutes from the sea, it is no surprise that the variety of sea food is incredible (as featured on Rick Stein's Mediterranean series)
The history of this region is fascinating - it has had settlers as varied as the Greeks, Romans, Lombards and Byzantines. The Turks and Venetians came in the 1800s until in 1861, the region joined a unified Italy. So much of the fascinating history can be seen in the buildings and towns of the region.
The area is also home to a wide array of birds and flowers - its flora and fauna in the summer months particularly are one of Puglia's great attractions
Lecce / Torre Rinalda area
There are many exciting things to do around Villa Rinalda.
Many of the towns hold unique and localised festivals throughout the year including Fasano's Carnival Parade in February, San Cesarea's Historical Regatta in November and Lecce's festival of St Orontius in August. Unknown to many, Bari is said to be where the bones of St Nicholas lie and there is a fabulous historical re-enactment of the Arrival of St. Nicholas' Bones, with procession of floats (May).
Due to the flat landscape, the area is loved by cyclists especially as the relaxed way of life ensures cars are not such a hazard as in northern italy. There are also many quiet coastal roads which cars tend to avoid in preference of the parallel motorway.
There are also golf courses nearby as well as fabulous beaches
The town of Casalabate (3km) has a Sunday market full of fresh fruit, seafood and friendly locals! There is also a small supermarket here.

Guestbook
"What an amazing location! We had sun, the beach and the most fabulous time at Villa Rinalda. The rooms were impresively large and there was plenty of room for all six of us without feeling the least bit crowded. The area has so much to explore...we will rebook!" Mr & Mrs L Thomas
"The children loved Villa Rinalda and what a relief to be able to know they are safe within the garden. We just secured the gates and knew they could play without worrying. The terrace was great for all of those BBQs (of which there were many!) and we walked to the beach on most days. A fantastic base from which to explore this great area" Mrs R Robinson and family
"Having cycled a lot in the northern parts of Italy, I was recommended to try the southern area. From Villa Rinalda, I made it to the southern tip, Gallipoli before coming back along the coast. What a well kept secret! The roads are so flat, it is a cyclist's paradise! Plenty of restaurants and bars to stop along the way and stunning views of the coast and olive groves." Mr M Oliver
